How many balls do you use per round?

I recently switched to an e5 bridgestone ball and love it. Mind you this was on recommendation from the bridgestone guys at the fitting booth.
But i do find after a couple full wedge shots it does cut up a little.

Now I never really liked to play more than 1 ball per round, mainly for cost reasons, but seriously for the better players out there, that i aspire to be.... do you need to switch balls during a round to keep performance up, or is it all hogwash?

P.S i mean for competitive competition golf, not play 9 holes after work stuff.

If I have hit quite a few wedge shots I would 'ideally' get a new ball out after 12 holes or so, but I play the same ball for the whole round for cost reasons. The scuffs you see from wedge shots do not affect the balls performance very much at all, I think it is the layer of paint peeling off (someone correct me if I am wrong) rather than the cover cutting up like you used to see after blading a balata in old days.

Thanks for your input. I was goin solid today with the e5 but hit it OB at the 15th. It had a few paint peels which didnt affect my distance, but it just bugs me when i line up for the putt lol. I guess it doesnt really cost much when put into perspective. Me average 40 rounds of comp per year = 60-70 balls maybe. I can get that for about $60 dollars for just below mint grade. Lucky i dont play prov1

This is me. Last weekend I went 5 full rounds. Suprisingly enough, the Penta held up very very well.

Could depend largely on the ball you play man. I use the Srixon Z-stars and they are very durable. I typically lose them before I have a need to replace them.

The yellow ones especially. Kidding, but I do love the yellow as I can see it so much better.

Most places have the Z-stars on sale now two dozen for $59.99. The Golf Warehouse site, Dicks Sporting Goods, etc..

I got 8 dozen myself.

I think these days I average less than one ball/round. But admit I don't keep count and Thursday I lost two (a Tin Cup event). I usually play either Nike PD soft or Titleist NXT Pro. But I can't be losing many as I have not bought any balls in 6 months.

I usually lose a ball every other round. I usually try to see how long I can go with a ball. This season I got a ball through 100 holes and then put it on display on my shelf. 100 holes=5 18 hole rounds + 10 holes. I mark my (golf) balls and when I lose one I take not of where I lost it and how many holes I got it through that way if I find it I know how many it's been through and continue using it. The ball that I got through 100 holes I actually lost for like a week in the woods and a couple rounds later I decided to go look for it and found it.

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

I'll use the same ball until I lose it even in a competitive round. For a round I care about I start off with a brand new ball and will use it till I lose it. I'd say the max I will use the same ball is 3 rounds then it is off to the shag bag. I am a ball hunting man so I usually start the round with a previously used pro v1 or x depending on what I have. If I loose 3 balls I've played horrid.

I don't. I play the E6 and I play it until I lose it or beat it to death. I've gotten at least 3 rounds from one without any noticeable lose of performance. Full shots with sharp square grooves will strip the cover off any ball... none of my full shot irons has square grooves, so I don't worry about that.

Usually one ball for the whole round unless I lose it. I've never had a ball badly enough damaged that I felt it was necessary to change. Unless there's a deep gouge, I don't think typical scuffs will be bad enough to make a significant difference in performance.

I'll occasionally reuse balls across rounds, but I like to have a clean ball on the first tee.

Depending on conditions, my mental state, and how competitive I'm feeling that day.... 1-6 I would say lol, most I ever went was 20 holes with 1 ball.
