By this I mean what shots can hit with what club. One example is a shot that I have never seen anybody else use but I am sure amateurs could use it OFTEN.

If I am about 30 yards from a tree and Its a little far to punch through the tree and guarantee it being low enough and I also dont have enough room to get over it with my 60 I have 2 options. I can punch out to middle of fairway lateral or I can play an odd shot that I have kind of learned. I play my miss with a 3 wood. I have to have a little bit of a wide fairway and at least 200 yards to the green but I can attack 50 yards to the left of the middle of the fairway ( maybe if the hole was 12 o clock and I was on the right fairway I would aim at maybe 10 o clock and hit a huge slice and curve it 50 yards right and 200 yards forward. I just play a slice and try and hit a super slice and it has worked probably 7/10 times quite well.

I have never used it but I have noticed I can do it at the range all the time. If I take some of my irons back at a very straight horizontal angle it will almost always be a snap hook as I close my hands to fast.

Do you have a flop shot in the bag? what degree do you use?

What do you use to punch out? Bump and run ideal club?

Can you play a fade or slice with irons on command?

Draw or snap hook like bubba if you needed to?

Im just kind of curious about some "golf creativity?"

Not really.  I don't even carry a 60 right now because I would try that shot more often than necessary and it rarely worked.  If I absolutely have to, right now its 56 or bust.

When I have to keep it low under the tree, I'll usually go with the 3 iron.

Bump and run ideal club?

I never practice this, so I am not very good here, but when I try it, it's usually an 8 iron.

Yes.  This one I am pretty good at.

Nope.  Could never really hit the intentional snap hook out from the trees with any club, no matter how hard I tried.

Flop shot:  Working on it.  I can occasionally pull it off by opening up my 56* and leaning the shaft WAY forward, but I don't do it often.  Looking into a 60* with low bounce for this purpose.

Punch out:  Hybrid or 5 iron with very short backswing.

Bump and run:  I use a 7 or 8 iron.

Fade or slice on command:  Not reliably.

Draw or snap hook:  YES, and generally not on command.  It just happens.

It's probably not special, but just off the green (only fairway) and around 20-35 yards from the pin I hit this nasty putt/chip with my 3 iron. I can pull out the 56 degree and plop it next to the hole but I've grown accustomed to running it near the hole. Just a comfort thing. Great thing about golf - you can do one thing a dozen ways.

I hit a decent flop shot with my 56 degree wedge wide open.

My go to club on punch outs lately has been my 5 iron  occasionally if I have a long way to go I will punch with my 5 wood.  I've gotten pretty good with it because I play from the trees alot.

For bump and runs I use the 8 iron mostly.

NO.

Some that go way left and not far. Some that go way right and not far. Some that go real high and not far. Some that go real far and extremely low. Some that go real high and real far and real straight and I think to myself "damn I love this game". Yeah I got lots of different shots in my bag. Too bad they're like toddlers and puppies and won't do anything I tell 'em

Nothing really special in my bag.

Bump and run with 9 or 8 iron and punch usually with 5 iron.

No flop shot. I can try to hit one, but the outcome is unpredictable, even with a good contact. It's on my practice list but with a lower priority than improving my bump and run.

Fade/slice I can do quite reliably. Happens also quite regularly by accident.

Draw/hook doens't usually happen by accident, but too often I end up with a straight shot when trying to hit a draw.

I wouldn't say I have some sort of special shot.

No flop for me, most degreed wedge is 58

Bump N Run I would use just my W

This.  If I'm swinging well, there aren't too many shots that I'm not able to hit.  Of course the Tiger shots are out of the question...

One thing I do frequently, and consider a strength of my game, is hitting a much shorter than usual shot with my irons.  It's useful when you're trying to keep the ball very low and under control with almost no spin.  I can probably hit a green with a 5-iron, for instance, from any distance between 140 and 210 yards.  I use this a lot with 5-9 irons.

With proper technique, a 58* wedge is MORE than enough loft to pretty much hit yourself in the chin if you if you like....

Flop shot is my 2nd favorite shot. I can do it with anything 53* and higher...i currently carry a 53* and a 62* that makes it really easy.

I can also hit a stinger driver like tiger (his goes a bit longer, but i can get around 275 with it)

Having faith in my full swing driver i would say is special... say if there is a trap that cuts into the fairway at about 260-275 well most people would probably want to lay up short of it. If i am swiging well, i can go all out on my driver and fly them. (favorite shot - because who doesn't like hitting it long)

Punch shots really depend on the situation. If you are going laterally and have a little room for height i use  a 5-7 so i can control distance and keep it in the fairway..if you are trying to advance it and/or keep it low, i use a 2i or 3 wood.

I also use a lot of punch shots for my regular approach shots to control spin and distance. My theory is choose the club i would hit full swing then drop 3 and punch (drop only 2 if into the wind)

I can hit a cut or slice or hook, but not a draw...still working on that one.

I can usually put some spin on my 56 degree wedge so I'm pretty good now with the 30-50 yard low pitch that will land, take a couple of bounces, and then stop (I've been working a lot with my short irons since I'm not as good with the rest of my game to hit enough greens).  I also have a knockdown when I have tree problems that I'll hit off of my back foot with a 5 iron or hybrid or so that comes out low and runs forward with a left to right curve, although this one isn't required very often.  I can also hit a high 52 or 56 degree wedge that will stop quickly if I need it.  Now, with my handicap I can't always pull these shots off, but when I do it validates all of my practice time, and my success percentage is improving with every round.

My Flop Shot: I am pretty good at this, i tend to cock the wrist alot in this shot, then i try to really slide club under the ball use alot of gravity on this shot and i really release the club through the shot. This adds loft as well, my hands may be slightly behind the ball at impact, not sure, but it feels like it. The ball tends to come out very high and very soft.

Lot of low hanging trees: I did this a few times, take a 3 wood, play the ball back in your stance, choke down on the club, then try not to hit down on the ball to much, you kinda want a shallower attack. Abbreviate the follow through, but really slap at the ball. This will just rocket the ball like 5-10 feet off the ground. I hit a ball 150 to pin high doing this, was able to get up and down for par. It was the only ally i had except for sideways or backwards.

High Fade: This one is strange, i use it for mid to long irons only. If i need to really hit the ball high, i will play it near the inside the front of my foot, i will take my swing but finish really high with the hands in the follow through. This usually hits a the ball very high, it will be a push fade. It goes about a club less than a normal shot, but it lands soft. Out of the rough, i can send an 8 iron in the air that comes down nearly vertical on the green. Its really tough to do out of tight lies.

I used to practice in my back yard by opening up my 60* and hitting it,  taking three quick steps,  and catching it before it hit the ground......     just good practice to get the ball without wiffing completely under it or sending it screaming across the yard!

I have a flop shot in the bag, but I hardly ever use it. I've used it two times in the past and had success both times. One time was right over a bunker to a short sided pin. Had a 3 footer for par.

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap
