Rory McIlroy Nike commercial - gym workout

One thing about McIlroy vs Woods. He's a lot more open in terms of revealing his off the course life although I understand why Woods is the way he is.

I can see why he spends 3 hours/5 days a week in the gym now. That's quite the circuit and we haven't seen the whole thing.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Wow, that seems excessive to me. I don't think I could bring myself to spend 15 hours in a gym a week. I don't think even football players spend that much time in the gym.

But yeah, I watch all of that and my reaction is NOPE NOPE NOPE. One of the many things that separates me from the best golfer in the world, haha.

Yep i agree. There was a time when golf WAS excercise. Doctors in the UK used to recomend it to "gentlemen of a certain age". Now seems you have to be fitness god just to play :-P

I don't know, I think he'll suffer the same fate as Tiger if he keeps it up, all that brute strength and incredible muscle twitch speed just puts too much stress on the back and knees etc. I see no golf reason to get that bulked up.

It seems excessive to me, but I'm hardly an expert in the subject. Plus, that training looks mostly like plyometrics rather than hardcore weight training. 15 hours a week on that seems like a lot to me, but I know nothing.

It seems excessive to me, but I'm hardly an expert in the subject. Plus, that training looks mostly like plyometrics rather than hardcore weight training. 15 hours a week on that seems like a lot to me, but I know nothing.

15 hours a week isn't much. I'm sure a lot of it is cardio which just takes time as well. I used to average about 2 hours a day when I was in school, running for 45 minutes or so on the track upstairs at the gym, and then walking down to the weight room to do my lifting for the day. And this is his job full time. You mentioned football players; they spend a crazy amount of time in the gym. I knew some football players in college and they would have two weight sessions a day out of season.

15 hours isn't really that much. I still spend anywhere between 1 to 2 hours in the gym daily depending on whether I do Cardio or not. It's a lifestlye in itself and I'm not even jacked. With the proper trainers, training, and equipments, I don't how his longevity can be adversely affected by his exercise.

Agree.  When I was bike racing, I would do 15 hours a week on the bike alone, not including other exercising.

He has a tremendous team, not to mention the support of Nike, which knows a thing or two about fitness. What do you all think?

Rory is bulky compared to how he looked when we first saw him play, same goes for Tiger.  People (mostly older) assume that adding muscle equates to lack of flexibility and becoming muscle bound.  I'm confident Rory is working with experts who understand how critical flexibility is so I don't think Harmon needs to worry.  I also am a bit shocked that Harmon would compare Dustin to Rory given their height difference alone.

You'd better email his people and tell them of your concerns. This is the beauty of the internet.

I didn't like some of the voice exercises that I saw Mick Jagger doing on Youtube a few years ago and made no bones about letting him know. I assume he took heed because he's singing well at the moment.

Rory's team will be very grateful to have someone giving them advice because clearly they are clueless and no idea what they should or shouldn't be doing.

Explain to them your thoughts and hopefully Rory will stop doing what these fools advise him to do and follow your recommendations.
