But regardless, we're talking about someone shouting 'get in the bunnker'

Which, in golf, is inappropriate.

Read Bobby Jones’s quote about cheering for well played shots at the Masters.

Indeed! In golf, you remain neutral to the results of your opponents shots. But, when a particularly fine strike is applied, it's appropriate to to applaud!

Playing devil’s advocate here, announcers on TV have been known to tell a ball to get in a bunker as it is often more favorable than being buried in the rough. Perhaps this guy though he was helping.

Ok now you’re pushing that ‘benefit of the doubt’ a bit...lol.

Maybe it has something to do with him pounding his chest after winning a hole. I get irritated when they show that clip on TV.

I think it goes without saying that the perpetrator doesn't like Poulter. But what has that got to do with it?

We'll agree to disagree.

I am a fan of Poulter, but I think he was out of line.

And I can’t stand Poulter and think the spectator was the one out of line. And Poulter and tournament officials agree.

Golf is not other sports.

Doesn't change my view.

The tournament officials decide on their rules, so no issue with them enforcing their rules.

I still think both they and Poulter were overly zealous, but I blame Poulter more. It was hardly 'abuse' as Poulter claimed.

When someone says "agree to disagree" that usually means they're done posting about it.

I was just pointing out that your opinion was in the minority.

I think most golfers are thin skinned but that’s the way they were brought up in golf. I played team sports growing up and I like listening to music and just talking crap to friends and getting it back of course while playing, but it’s golf. That’s why I like watching the long drive compositions... they get the crowds pumped up!

Unfortunately though, that’s the way this game is played and has been played forever. Like it or not, the fans have to be somewhat respectful to the players when they are at a live event. It is what it is.
