Golf Broadcast Style Preference

  1. 1. What Is Your Golf Broadcast Style Preference?

    • "Preferred Hole" - The broadcast is from a couple of holes only and you see all the golfers play through the chosen holes.
      0
    • "Preferred Groups" - The broadcast picks a couple of groups to follow around the course.
    • "See it All" - The broadcast goes back and forth around the course and you get to see "all" of the golfers play.

Personally I don't much enjoy the "Preferred Holes" type of broadcast. I find it boring to watch the pro after pro play through the same hole. For me the "Preferred Groups" is a bit better but my preference is the third choice. I like it when they skip around the course and I get to watch most all of the pros play most all of the course. If you watch golf on TV which broadcast type do you prefer?

I went with "see it all". That is if, and when I actually watch a golf tournament.

I am not one of those viewers who can sit for 4 hours watching a golf tournament telecast.

I might, watch a total of 2 hours of 4 day tournament. If it's a major that interests me, most of my viewing will be on Saturday, and much more on Sunday.

I don’t care about watching a “preferred hole”, or group.  I want to see the competition. Show me all the players, or at least the ones who are in contention, no matter where they are on the course.

I want to see the whole competition with more full shots and short game shots and less putting. I find putting dull to watch except for crucial shots. It is easy to film, so they tend to do it too much.

First 2 rounds, preferred group.

Last 2 rounds, leaders.

I don't feel the need to see any shots of guys no one has ever heard of if they aren't in contention on the weekend.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I'm a "see it all" guy as well. As long as you can keep up with who is doing what, it can really tell you a lot about their course management and how they think their way around tough golf courses.

Then, of course, there is the entertainment value of being able to see all of my favorite players.

Definitely’See it all.’ If the match is tight on Sunday however, I have no interest in watching Zach Johnson lay up on a par 5 at even when the leaders are -10.

This may be my own pet peeve.  I don't want to see guys putting, unless it's for a lead change or something similar.  Show me the full shots... and the artwork around the greens.  Putting on TV is boring.

I don't want to see Zach Johnson (sorry Zach) at all, but I did once use a See-More putter.

Yep, especially if they’re just walking around, looking at the hole from 360*, then plumb-bobbing, and we get to listen to the commentators trying to fill the time with something insightful. No one else is hitting a shot somewhere else, or even a “this, just a moment ago” to show? This is one reason I almost always watch on DVR.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
