A guy on the range yesterday asked me about the MEVO Plus I was using. I showed him what it can do. He said he was interested in the Garmin but it was sold out. I told him this has a lot more features and will have the Pro package add on next year.

Well, you probably read my post on it. But I could not have been less impressed with the Garmin R10.

I saw one of the teaching pros at the range the other day using a GC3 during one of her lessons. I wanted to go get a closer look, but didn't feel right about interrupting the lesson being given.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

I did. I didn’t want to trash it in front of the guy. I just let him know the MEVO Plus was a lot better. I was using my iPad to run the app too, so the graphics really shined.

Cool. I hope it’s not like a limited time offer or something, because I wasn’t planning on upgrading until later next year.

I love tech and work in the industry but I'm new to golf tech in particular.

With the Pro package, does Mevo get close to feature parity with Trackman?

What would it be missing?

Do we know anything about its accuracy vs. Trackman?

If the number of data parameters and accuracy are similar, will Trackman be able to justify its 10x price point?

Also, this might be very technical but maybe someone can answer: they are adding these features through a software update (ie, not updating the hardware). It's hard for me to understand how they can reorient the same hardware capabilities to get club data, when they were not designed from the ground up to do so. Are they maybe adding this by analyzing the video with computer vision?

I mean, kinda close to feature parity, yes. But… it is probably a bit less accurate (it doesn't have as many doppler arrays as the X3 or Trackman 4) and it doesn't track the ball for as far.

It'll give a LOT of the same data, though, with… 24 data points (IIRC)?

It's quite accurate. Within 1-2%. You pay a good bit for the last 2%. 🙂

The FlightScope X3 is already about half the cost of a Trackman, but they continue to "justify" the expense because of marketing, whatever. In our testing, I've found the FlightScope to be as accurate or more accurate than the Trackman. I haven't tested the X3 against the 4, but the previous generation was more accurate.

The hardware is capable. These things are just doppler radar, at their core, so it's sending out the signal and getting signals back. It's how the software (and firmware) interprets the data that determines what it's "capable" of.

The camera is part of their Fusion Tracking, which is more for lower speed shots (pitches, chips, etc.) and that'll be a free update. The Pro Package is the $1k update that enables the club data.

Just got an email notification that my Mevo+ shipped. Really looking forward to getting it and putting it to use.

Probably won't purchase the Pro Package right away as I have already overspent my 2022 golf budget and the new year hasn't even started yet, but I'll be looking forward to hearing feedback on it in this thread if any TST'ers get the upgrade. I have a bunch of stuff to post for sale on ebay/craigslist, so there's a chance I might be able to get more spendy.

I bet the marketing department likes this photo from a Me and My Golf post.

Well after being lost in the UPS ether since late December, my Mevo+ was finally delivered this afternoon. Probably won't have time to set up and start using it today, but looking forward to trying it out this weekend.

I'm reading that the tilt for the FS app is now going to be 12° instead of 16°. I haven't confirmed it yet (I've been using the Awesome Golf simulator the past two weeks).

That makes my purchase of these a nice thing — I can figure out which slot is 12° and set my Mevo+ to that:

How do you like the Awesome Golf simulator package?

I will be buying a Mevo+ in the summer when I build out my garage simulator in the new house and have been watching a few videos on the various platforms that work with the Mevo+ and trying to figure out which software I want to go with for simulator play.

It's okay. I wish it had more than four games (a chipping game into pools of water, a blast-apart-buildings game, a create-sinkholes game, and a sink-boats game… that all feel somewhat similar), but the few minutes I've spent playing the courses (three holes) and the time I've seen a guy using the range (I'm probably just as likely to use the FS Golf app for range work)…

For $349, it's worth it for my juniors. It's definitely one of the cheaper options out there, and it's in active development. I just wish it was a bit farther along.

It does have like 4 or 5 courses, though… maybe I'll play those more soon.

    • Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.
    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
