I’ve always liked Kevin Na. I liked that he was a short hitter and a weirdo and still managed to win on the PGA Tour. It sucks that he’s jumping ship for more money. The man has made $35 million from the Tour, not including the endorsements. How much more money could he possibly need?

We always enjoyed watching the "Na Step", but he's stepped in it now.

Does anyone here expressing dismay and outrage also boycott Chinese products? Might be hard in some cases but the principle seems related.

Wondered when the whataboutism would enter.

They’re not the same.

Where possible, I try and prefer products from places that don’t have questionable human rights practices or other issues that I find problematic or just downright evil.  There was an earlier comment about the UAE and I would agree that their record on human rights is not great either.  Saudi Arabia took the extra step of killing someone and getting caught for it, which brings them more to the forefront for criticism.

I don’t want to get into politics or geopolitics but where possible I avoid supporting places that are repressive.   I’m sure there will always be disagreements, but my hope is that shared economic interests can promote positive change.

After the Monday US Open qualifiers on Monday. Who joins the LIV if they don’t make it? Fowler? Does he have too much to lose sponsorship wise?

What would one have to do with the other?

No, what does the U.S. Open have to do with LIV? So far as we know, Dustin Johnson will get to play in the U.S. Open.

I was asking if he misses out on qualifying for the US Open. Yet another major he is not at. Would that tip in favor of him joining the LiV. I know one doesn’t have anything to do with the other. But by not playing he doesn’t get paid. He has been in a super slump and missing out could make him re think the Pga tour.

I don't think the two are as closely linked as you do. I don't think making the field or missing out will affect his decision.

Yeah, and I don't know what he'll do. He'd likely lose his sponsors, but he's almost earning only that money these days.

Agree, and also want to stay on topic. My point is who is the arbiter of what is right and what is wrong? Also am I evil because I worked in Saudi, the UAE and China?

It’s not really.

Consumers buying products they need from a business in China for their personal use is not all that similar to a millionaire golfer ditching a tour that made him famous to help a government sportswash.

In case you missed it:

  • Consumers buying versus athletes being paid.
  • Need versus no need.
  • Businesses versus the government itself.
  • Use instead of sportswashing.

A consumer buying something does much more for the consumer than it does for the country in which that business resides than a golfer taking part in a PR play sponsored by the government.

That’s as similar as a zebra is to an blade of grass. They’re both living things so…

No, just like the millions of people who live and work in any country who have nothing to do with the policies of their government and may not like/agree with them.   Where it’s a really clear line for the LIV is that the same entity, the Saudi government, who ordered the execution of a journalist and has policies that repress their own people are directly funding the LIV.

and while I was typing this @iacas replied and I agree 100%.  Different situation from purchasing consumer good and even working for a private (non-govt) company,

    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
