Hi, I'm having issues paying for items I'm interested in on eBay, I tried to pay for irons I bought but my card was declined and told to contact my bank. This card worked fine on eBay and Golfworks previously, I contacted my bank and tried to process the payment in the bank branch but it wouldn't work and the bank said the card is fine.

Last night I used a friends card who uses the same bank and the payment went through, after spending almost and hour in my bank today they say eBay has a hold on my name. I could get a new card but this card is only weeks old and the bank believe that wouldn't help, I've tried to contact eBay customer service but no reply after 3-4 weeks. I've not rang because I live in New Zealand and that's expensive....

Has anyone had this problem and solved it, I would appreciate your help...

I use PayPal for that reason. I was having random trouble with cards depending on the seller.

Tried PayPal with the same result, my sister's opinion is eBay have blocked me because I complained about some irons I bought from an eBay seller. They were badly chipped and rusty steel shafts, nothing in the photos or description about that. PayPal customer service gave me the wrong advise over the phone on how to claim, and after a month your stiff outa luck.....

I found PayPal very expensive compared to eBay, I've since removed my account with PayPal....

I am assuming you mean using a credit card vs. PayPal. Yeah, it's an escrow company and is safer. Like using a cashier's check. So yeah PayPal will cost a bit more for that service but assures the seller they will get their money. Same not always true for cc payments.

Some eBay sellers may have reservations against cc usage for that reason.

Likewise you are protected from some shady seller stealing your cc.

Some of my cards have automatic fraud protection that prevents them from making purchases in other countries. I learned that the hard way when I got declined when trying to buy something online, called them up and they told me I would have had to contact them to authorize use in a foreign country ahead of time.

For eBay I definitely use PayPal though.

I usually do that anyway. Or when travelling--a call ahead of time that "I'll be in the following countries..." so they know to expect it.

And I would have, had I been traveling. However, it was an online purchase and I didn’t know the country the transaction would have been processed in. I ended up just using a different card.

PayPal have processed a number of payments for $3 with no explanation, just stealing in my view. I tried to contact PayPal customer service with no reply because I live on the other side of the world, it happened 10 years ago when I lived in Sydney, got someone from PayPal on the phone but when I was halfway through my complaint they cut me off...

Depends on how you have funded the PayPal account. If it is funded by anything other than your direct bank account, whether it is a debit card, another cc or even a PayPal cc, there is a fee.

Also, non-US transaction cost if you use NZ dollars (forex conversion) - there is probably a fee. Not sure that's what you are/were getting charged.

Sure, errors can occur that can sometimes be difficult to resolve but PayPal can't really 'steal' per say.

Anyway, you didn't ask about PayPal so that's all there is to say about that. Hopefully you can get back to shopping with your cc.. Good luck!

I don’t give any company authority to draw on my account at their whim, had bad experience with that in the past....

There may actually be something to what your sister is saying? If you made complaints about auctions before, there may be a block or something. It sounds weird I agree, hope it works out.

That's why I never sign up for anything... free trial, one year subscription, etc.... with a credit card because in the fine print if you don't notify them in writing (or similar) that you want to cancel they can legally charge your card for more of the same.  They make it so that the onus is on you to cancel in a timely manner.  Sorry, I'm not writing all that stuff down or putting it as a reminder on my phone.  That's their scam... you'll forget and they get to charge your card for another cycle.

That’s why I say it’s STEALING.....

If I can’t setup the payment myself so I can cancel when I want then I don’t value your product or service, just yesterday I tried 3 times to buy something on the Rebel sports website and couldn’t get it done, they were saying I’m not registered but still sending me promotional rubbish... so my attitude is F you you keep it I don’t want it anymore, it was an Allblacks hoodie...

Yeah I’m sure there is, hopefully eBay will want to keep me spending my money on their website...

Setting a reminder on your phone takes like five seconds. I do it all the time for things like this - "remind me in 85 days to cancel my Arccos trial" or whatever.

I set up a reminder to cancel my XM radio subscription each year.    The renewal fee is significantly higher than what I pay.    It's easy to have a reminder to cancel subscriptions.

Yeah agree I've done reminders in my mobile calendar after I stopped written reminders, I'm talking about signing up for ONE year and getting charged for another year. That sucks....
