In terms of restrictions in general, they need to fit the threat... and that threat is somewhat different for different populations and for those who are immune system compromised.

In the US the threat is about 69 deaths per 100,000 population (Johns Hopkins University). Pretty small but expect it would increase some if we just unlocked everything.  I am not in favor of lockdowns, they do more damage than the virus would do.  I am in favor of reasonable (problem is who defines reasonable) restrictions on some activities.  In the specific case of golf, I mentioned what is being done in this area in my first post.  Seems like these are reasonable and not much of an effort for the courses to do.

No golf again for 6 weeks while we are in a lockdown, it was announced today that golf courses would have to close again after 48 hours of discussions between the golfing union of Ireland and the government.

The golfing union of Ireland have let us down badly, it is easy to prove how golf is one of the safest activities out there and is the only outlet for so many people.

I don’t know what I’m gonna suck at for the next 6 weeks 😂😂, in all seriousness though, devastated with the news today.

I agree, Ireland have overreacted to Covid. Lock down for six weeks, then a few weeks afterwards the infection level will just go up again. Nobody will become immune whilst they are stuck indoors, and if the government is waiting for a vaccine, forget it, that's years away. Like you say, a golf course is far safer than a supermarket, but nobody will shut those.

Sorry to hear that. I am very cautious how I go about things during Covid, but I play golf at least twice a week because I feel it is a very safe endeavor. I was supposed to be over there on a trip in April and I know I will be back again at some point. Ireland is my favorite place on the planet for golf. Slaintѐ.

All golf clubs in England are to close for 4 weeks in England as from Thursday 5th November. For what it is worth, I don't believe in any form of lock down, but that's another issue all together. We are permitted to go for a long walk with one member of another household, but we aren't permitted to hit a golf ball while we do it. Please, can someone tell me why or how that makes any sense.

What's the situation where you live ?

It doesn't make sense, and it never will. I will do my best to avoid the politics in it all. We are about to get locked down here in Wisconsin too for about 4-5 months. Mainly because it's hard to find golf balls in 2' of snow though. 😂 So, you'll hopefully be playing again before I am. Hopefully it is just the 4 weeks for you. Good luck!

The politicians got to look like they are making that big effort.

Here in the U.S., we'll see what happens after Election Day. The reports keep getting worse and I got a feeling that once the election results are sorted, we're going to see more lockdowns.

Supposed to get up into the 60s (over 15.55 C) later this week here in Ohio. Might be one last go for a bit.

Several high schools in Michigan are starting to revert back to virtual learning.  Over the last two weeks we're averaging over 2k / day infection rate.   I don't understand the idea of a lock down for most outdoor activities.   I wish this would just be over but I'm doing my part.    It seems as if people are tired of the pandemic and tired of staying vigilant to protect themselves and others.

Golf courses can be very safe.     I have tee times Wednesday at Pontiac CC and Thursday at Fox Hills (Golden Fox).

Go into lockdown and press the pause button, open up and we are back to where we started. The vaccine is a myth, so we may as well get on with it. My last game tomorrow for four weeks

    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
