You joke, but John Daly is one of the most naturally talented golfers around, his short game is also superb.

Exactly...even with his biggest gut to date, JD still is remarkable with the wedges, you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it, ....effortless.

Too bad his putting, driving, and approach shots ....stink.

Miguel Angel Jimenez is pretty amazing--hes the best 3wood off the fringe player ive evr seen

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

I'll take Philly Mick for the best shortgame. Everyone knows Tiger is the best player overall but I remember watching a tournament last year I believe and the announcers were talking about a subject like this about who was the best when they're all playing at the top of their game and I believe it was Johnny Miller echoing Butch Harmon who had said that Phil has the best game when he's at his absolute best. They all said Tiger was the best overall but that all things being equal Phil had the most talent.

That's what I've always thought too its just that nobody comes even close to Tiger as far as desire for improvement, dedication and mental toughness and I think that stuff matters as much as talent or short game in the end.

Oh and that reverse flop shot was siiiiiiick....who else could do that really

Neither of these answer the question. Again, are you just typing for the sake of typing? Name dropping?

I saw Sabbatini at Oakmont at the practice green by the range...you wouldnt believe the crowd he drew while hitting soft flops and 1 skippers that stopped on a dime out of the rough and the sand...he stood out there and was putting on a show...he looked a lot better than anyone else i saw there that week at chipping and putting..really really amazing stuff--hed almost take a full swing-from 5 yards in the rough--but his swing was soo slow that it looked effortless--it was really amazing

My answer: Tiger. He can hit every shot Phil can, and usually gets them closer, and since putting is a part of the short game, he distances himself even more.

Sadly, looking at the stats tells me that it is none other than Tim Clark.
After the 2007 season was over.

Putt per GIR: He ranked 1st at 27.88
Sand saves: He ranked 1st at 65.33%

Tiger wasn't even close.

Putts per GIR 28.93, rank 48th

I've followed many PGA Tour players around live tournaments and for the most part I haven't been impressed by too many of their short games. Ernie Els is the exception. I've been very impressed with Els short game. One day back in 2006 I saw him hit shots that I don't believe any other pro would have been able to execute as consistantly nor as accurately. During that day I saw him hole one green side bunker shot, and stick another green side bunkers shot with in inches where he had lots of bunker to carry with a high lip to a tightly tucked pin with little green to work with. I saw him hit percision chips from severe downhill lies and difficult rough. He didn't putt too bad that day either.

tiger and phil are pretty similiar in ability i reckon. that video fo mickelson hiting it over his head isn't BS is it? if it isn't that is amazing and i am so trying that next time I play. out of bunkers i believe ernie els is probably equal first, he can get it close from some of the trickiest lies...an interesting stat if i could find it, would be who has the least amount bunkers hit on tour...if you stay out of the sand then you don't need good bunker skills then do you ;)

I spent some time at 18 green during a practice round at Oakmont round and saw mulitple players doing this.....not so sure Rory did so much of that from Thurs. to Sun.

SABBATINI, Rory |+21 |73 |77 |78 |73 |301 Anyway....I'll take Tiger. Phil makes those cute little flop shots that give everyone wood (but how often is it out of necessity?) and there are quite a few others with great short game (most of the tour players in fact)....but based on consistency and accuracy.....I have to give Mr. Woods the nod.

stats aside, id say Jim Furyk.

his putting is poor these days imo

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
