I haven’t seen a thread related to one of the worlds greatest spectacles of all time. Yes, I am talking about football.  If there is a thread please feel free to merge for me and I apologize to the soccer fans.

So, there are 2 questions:

Who is in the Finals and who takes home the world cup?

Who would you like to see win although they most likely won’t?

Argentina seems to be the favorite and I’m going to go with the crowd on that.

However I would like to see Croatia win it.

Another question, how embarrassing will the US Men’s be?

  1. Spain v Netherlands with Spain winning.
  2. One of the African teams like Ghana or Cameroon.

There is going to be a highly anticipated match USA vs IRAN

it’s like the USA vs RUS in hockey but without the significant world standing in the sport.

I think it’s Brazil for this one. They’re always a powerhouse of course, despite their odd ass handing 0-7 against Germany.

I’m with @boogielicious with an African team winning. Senegal probably has the best chance. But I’ve been to Cameroon several times and love it there. It would be nice to see them win.

I'll be watching most of the games.    I'll enjoy watching the US but believe they will have a challenge getting out of the Group B.

Group A:  Netherlands and Senegal

Group B: England and USA

Group C; Argentina and Poland

Group D; Denmark and France

Group E; Germany and Spain

Group F; Belgium and Croatia

Group G; Brazil and Cameroon

Group H; Portugal and Uruguay

Opening Game

Qatar vs Ecuador

0 - 2

I enjoyed the game.  Could have been a  0 - 3 game if not for an offside call using the semi automated system being deployed for the first time in the world cup.

Ecuador seems strong, but it might be because of how disoriented the Qatari side seemed to be during the match.

The level of play was still exciting and hoping to see more of this in the next few weeks.

Qatar only made the tournament because they are the host.   Their team was disoriented many times and their back line was pretty weak.   They did a scoring chance or two but were really never contenders in this match.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's matches!

I’m happy to see the WC start but the opening game was a sleeper imo. 2-0 In the first half against a disoriented team is a bore to watch for me.

Feels like forever since I last watched the USMNT. I'll typically only watch them in the World Cup as a casual fan, and missing qualification in 2018 has really gotten me out of the loop. That being said, I'm excited to finally watch them again today at 2pm against Wales!

By the way, it's strange we drew England and Iran again. I feel like we always draw them. The Iran game should be a fun, bad blood kind of battle. I'm still stinging from 1998!

The World Cup reminds me that England fans might be more delusional than Raiders fans. At least the England fans I know.

Nice games today

US - Whales 1 - 1

really good game of 2 halfs

England - Iran 6 - 2

Just wasn’t fair

Senegal - Netherlands 0 - 2

Was a really good game and second goal scored in like last minute anyway

So England is atop of this group with 3 points, US and Whales at 1 and Iran with a 0

Well Zimmerman really screwed us good. Can’t make bone head mistakes like that in the WC. Bench him and move on.

Wales made a great 1/2 time adjustment and the USA never recovered.    GB was outcoached today.

Good day to watch soccer.

So with an amazing KSA win over Argentina the king decreed tomorrow would be vacation for everyone in the kingdom.

Tunisia - Denmark 0 - 0

Poland and Mexico just started and should be a good game.

Ya agree.  Plus some outstanding play by the Saudi keeper he was under so much pressure last 30 minutes of the game.

Having said that with the Poland - Mexico 0 - 0 we are looking at a wide open group.

KSA 3 points

Poland & Mexico with 1 Point

Argentina with 0 points

Up next France vs Australia and I think all odds are France wins this one, but we will see.

4 - 1 France - Australia

With that France looks damn strong

Tunis - Denmark 0 - 0 earlier

France - 3

Tunis - 1

Denmark - 1

Australia - 0

I don’t see how Australia makes it out of this group.  I had France and Denmark and I’m sticking to it.

Nice set of games today

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
