I know I've posted in this thread before, but since it came up again in my "recents" I figured I'd take a look at my current numbers.  I'm up to 308 courses now, and will add at least 4 more this year, two of them next weekend in OH.

I have 11 cases which hold 100 balls each. My wife insists they have glass doors so she does not have to dust them. The balls are in the order I played the course for the first time. Shown are cases #

Just got back from Vegas, after playing 4 times (3 new courses), I'm up to 402 courses.

I just hit 425 and finally played golf in New York (26th state), at Sleepy Hollow Country Club (Hole 16), which was fantastic.

Yes, time for an update.  I added five courses this year bringing my total to 444 in 32 states and 16 countries. 

 

I also try to track courses I have played that have hosted these events:

I have played 210 courses.  Maybe more, depending how you count them.  Some destinations have more than one course for the same club house.  Courses that have 27 holes, I've counted as 1 course; But some  have distinct courses.  For example I recently went on a golf trip to Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama.  We played 3 VERY different  courses even though they shared a common clubhouse.

I was inspired to make a spreadsheet. I'm up to 70 by my best recollection. I might have missed a few courses, but it's definitely in the single digits. I've only ever played golf in the US, and in 10 different states.

Probably around 80 courses. I did a rough count and came up with like 74. I am probably missing a few here or there.

My best guess is under 100 so I need to get out more. Still trying to play all that Wisconsin has to offer and there are a lot of great ones here. Checked Blackwolf Run off the list this year and Sedge Valley. Blackwolf Run is brutal. I have to get to Sentry World and The Lido yet around here at the top of the local list. So many places all over the country and world I would love to go to though.  Will have to pick a top ten maybe at some point and try and get to them.

I played a hole that looked just like that at Full Cry at Keswick Hall, down near Charlottesville.  Its a Pete Dye design, but clearly this hole imitates the work of some older architects.  Golf Club Atlas suggests there's something of Langford and Moreau in the wrap-around bunker.

After my Ohio trip, and a recent visit to the Gettysburg area, I'm up to 321 courses, with at least one additional planned for October.  A long way behind @jsgolfer, but still a lot of fun places.

I'm not real familiar with Raynor, so I looked at the Golf Club Atlas article.  It was interesting to see Dye essentially copy an "old" design, but I imagine that almost all current designs are based at least partly on the work that has come before.

Four years ago, I created a spreadsheet. My count currently stands at 283. At the rate I am adding new courses (about 3-4 a year), I am not venturing out to new venues often enough. Sadly, 21 of the courses no longer exist.

      It is not THE tour but it is a tour and I think they need to lean more into the golden tee style golf holes. Give us something you cannot give us in real life and give us something that is entertaining and the players have fun doing it also. That massive draw Rory hit to recover on one hole was so fun.  I know it becomes more gimmicky but I think that would make it more entertaining.

      Just some clarifications.  Something to try out. It is something Rory does. He extends his left knee, which closes his hips a bit, but it also shifts him right. It was something we were trying. It could help be a trigger for the backswing and get me shifted right. Also help with my left knee flexion.    More focus on this^. I have to nail this, or the downswing will just be dead.  Less of this^ Got clarification from @iacas that the numbers might be over what they actually are. So, this was much closer to A or A- rather than like B or B-. Something to keep an eye on, but much better now. Anything associated with me overturning/swinging needs to be monitored, lol.  Focus on this^ Drills. Slam the medicine ball down and behind me. Going to search Amazon for a soft medicine ball I can throw. With it being like 5lbs, it is not that physically demanding. It definitely gets the feeling of how to throw the club down behind you with the arms.  Staying tall, similar to the medicine ball, but swing the club down hitting the ground way behind the ball. Not 100%, but don't be afraid to thump the ground.   Not much of drills for the left leg. Just a lot sooner. Because I have tons of knee bend going from A3 to A5, it is probably going to feel like I don't load the left leg that much but just extend it. Might incorporate some medicine ball exercises for this.  On a side note, I been thinking of this since the last lesson (January). The final swing for me is going to probably feel superfast/quick. I went and looked at an older GEARS swing. The backswing was like 1.3 seconds, and total time of 1.6 seconds.  A long backswing, a quickish downswing (0.3-ish seconds). A 4.4 to 1 tempo (PGA Tour is 3:1)  On the swings where I was doing the downswing stuff on Sunday. It went to 1.4 seconds (13% reduction), and the downswing went to 1.1 seconds (15.2% reduction). A 3.9 tempo. Getting closer to 3:1. I could tell the swing was going to be shorter/quicker when the torso turn runs up against hips that restrict the turn. Especially when I do the right arm stuff much better. It was like, "Oh crap, I stopped turning".  If my swing was closer to PGA tour averages, 0.75 second backswing and 0.25 second downswing. That is about 30% quicker than the baseline swing. Which will probably feel like 50% quicker. I might play around with a metronome. Just so I can get use to how fast I have to do this. I may need to speed up the right arm stuff. Not going to try that now, just maybe for later.
