So.. some changes going into 2014 for me. I ditched the TM MC's for some more forgiveness and got the G25's, got the G25 fairway 3 wood, titleist 913 hybrid, and got a Ping cart bag instead of the Oakley carry bag I had. The bag is fantastic, the 14 way divider was very much needed since my grips were being torn apart constantly. Putter well is also a nice touch. I've always wanted a staff bag but never felt comfortable getting one then I saw this bag and it looks like the best of both worlds. Anyway, enjoy the pics and let me know what you think! btw, if you don't have a frogger towel, seriously consider getting one!

No, he was just referring to the bag itself.  The clubs look like crap. :-P

Seriously though ... how often do you use (and how happy are you with) your utility iron?

My bad. :-D

I have a love hate thing going with hybrids, and a standard three iron is pretty tough to get through the rough, especially with my swing speed.  I looked at when I actually use a three iron.  I mainly use one on long par threes and on sometimes on par fives and fours every once and a while.  I can't hit a hybrid off a tee for s***, and a standard three iron is tougher out of the rough.  So I chose the utility iron because I mainly just use it off the tee.

Very happy with it off the tee, wish I could get a little more height like a hybrid out of the rough BTW.

I am in a similar situation right now.  I'm getting a little better with my hybrid, but for the most part, it gets used very rarely.  I could definitely see the benefit of the utility club as a driving iron since I could use it in place of my 4 iron and probably gain 20 yards while still gaining accuracy over my 3 wood or driver.  But the rare occasions when I do use my hybrid sometimes involve hitting it out of the rough, and I doubt the utility club would be easier out of the rough than the hybrid.  And I have one more wedge than you so I couldn't carry both the hybrid and utility club.

Yeah is definitely will not, for me though and the courses that I play, there is even one nine where I use it back to back off the tee on two holes so it just made sense for me.  If I never used it off the tee I might not use it.  I do find more accuracy out of the fairway though as well with the utility vs a hybrid.

And I have one more wedge than you so I couldn't carry both the hybrid and utility club.

When I was fit for the Edel wedges I made the decision to go to just three wedges, for the flexibility up top and I am really happy with that.  The versatility there with the Driver, Driveway, 4W and Utility Iron choices is more valuable to me.

Yeah, I could totally see myself doing that.  47-52-57 makes loads of sense to me and it would leave room for something like the driving iron, or perhaps even a 5 wood.

Right now, I'm at 45.5, 50, 54.5, 59.  I could switch to your setup and also probably bump the 7, 8 and 9 irons each down a degree to keep better gaps.

Yeah that was something I spoke with @iacas at length about when we did the fitting and ordered the wedges.  I needed to make room for the Diveway, 4W and 3iron. My 9 iron is 41 so the wedges fit pretty well.  The one slight drawback is that there is about a 15 yard gap between my nine iron and each wedge after.  I am very comfortable with partial wedge shots though, so for me it is not a problem.  Wedge shots are probably now the strongest part of my game.  As far as the 57 goes, I don't find I need anything with more loft than that.   And I use it for almost everything around the green.

Thinking about going to Edel? ;-)

Not wedges yet.  My irons are too new and work just fine.  I think I might be able to chop off a fraction of a stroke - maybe 1/2 - by switching, just to have a few degrees more bounce and eliminate those occasions where I chunk a pitch.  On the other hand, I'm getting better at the technique and if I just remember to keep my weight forward and keep my speed, I can do it just fine with my current wedge.

I am dying to get a putter though. :)

    • Okay, I'm genuinely curious about this "biodegradable leather" trend in golf. Are we talking snake oil here? I mean, golf balls, clubs... they all end up in the water eventually. Is this just greenwashing, or is there actually a real environmental benefit? And honestly, does it even perform as well as traditional leather? I don't want to sacrifice distance for the planet, you know? Anyone with real-world experience with these eco-friendly golf goods? Spill the tea!
