I'm sure I am one of the shorter hitters here, but I value the short grass!

What club do you reach for on a 205 yard par 3? Assuming there's not much garbage past the green, I would typically reach for either 3 or 4 iron when using my Mizunos. (205 is my full 4, an easy 3, or a stepped on 5)

Will it always go 205? No. Even if I hit exactly 205.0 yards, is there any guarantee the ball was on line? No. Let's say I hit the green. Any guarantee I won't 3 putt? What do you think?

it's a max...never saying EVERY time i hit a drive it goes 275...goes that if it's flat, no wind and on the sweet spot...could go more could go less pending wind, elevation, temps, billion other things...

Haha, this thread is so funny. Average drives in the 280 range, yeah... I swing 110 mph and I don't average that far. A 110 mph swing creates an average carry distance of 240 yards. I'm glad to see everyone here can somehow swing their 46" drivers and nail them exactly on center, every time, with a 120 mph swing speed, yet somehow with this amazing swing, they can't hit their other clubs accurately or well enough to score better than 90.

Like I said in an earlier response to this thread, distance isnt everything, the pros are accurate on almost every shot. If everyone hit every green and could putt well, then we'd all be professionals. Watching them on tv makes it look so easy but we all know its not. You have to do everything well to be as good as pros. And then you have to be the best of the best, just like any other sport, better than 99.999% of the rest that play that sport. Theres what, maybe 100 million worldwide(just guessing, might be a lot more) that play golf but only maybe 1000 professionals if you include pga, lpga, champions tour, european tour, and maybe nationwide tour as well. Just gives you an idea of how elite a group it really is.

I doubt most guys, myself included, were averaging in every shank they hit. I believe guys are simply stating the "stock distance" they hit each club. Somebody asks me how far I hit my 8 iron, I'm not going to say "Well, 70% of the time I hit it 150, 3% of the time I nut it 157, 20% of the time i fat it 140, 7% of the time I shank it 70yds...so I guess that's 132.7yds weighted average" or whatever. No, I'll tell them that I expect to hit it 150yds, or whatever my standard shot may be.

8* Driver
Clubhead Speed - 106 mph
Ball Speed - 159 (was not included in the site I took these from, so I used the 1.5 smash factor)
Average Distance - 289.6 yards

The point of me posting this is, that you can't tell some one that they can only drive the ball so far based on what their swing speed is ( and no, Im not saying that a guy that swings the club 80mph could hit the ball 315 yards.... I will cleaar that up before someone says something, although I shouldn't have to because we are all smarter than that). Look at the difference betweeen these 2, 19 mph difference and not even 9 yards. Shanks, you keep bringing up your driver swing speed and how far you carry the ball. Are you saying that Rocco mediate should have less carry distance than you because he has a 4mph less swing speed? You keep bringing up your stats like its the bible or the standard that everyone should base their calculations on. You,ve also posted in other threads that you have a very ugly swing, do you think that may have something to do with your LACK of distance on your 110mph swing speed? You were also fitted told you should be swinging an 8.5 degree driver or whatever with an xflex shaft, based on the driver from your sig you obviously haven't taken their recommenation, do you think that plays a part in your distance? I spent 5 hours hitting different drivers and with different shaft cominations until we found one that gave me the best results. There are more variables than just how hard you swing the club. I tried to stay away from this thread after one of my comments was deleted but this thread has gotten ridiculous and felt the need to chime in again.

Ha, yeah, comparing guys with multiple tour wins who duked it out in the U.S. open to a bunch of handicappers... That's real cute.

And Rocco's average driving distance is not 289.6, it's 266.9. Get a GPS, measure your drives, average them, and prepare to be humbled. I can hit them out there nearly 300 yards, but I can't with a straight face claim it as my average . My drives may go 300, they may be mishits that go 220. My average drive is around 265.
You,ve also posted in other threads that you have a very ugly swing, do you think that may have something to do with your LACK of distance on your 110mph swing speed? I play a high kick, very heavy True Temper EI-70 shaft cut to an X flex. It weighs about 100 grams, which does kill some swing speed. It's 45" long, but I'd like to cut it down to 44.5". I have a 9.5° driver, yes, but I use it to add some forgiveness. My launch angle with this is 17°. I would play an 8° driver, but it seems almost foolish to risk it. Tiger plays a 10.5, so why shouldn't I play a 9.5? But even I know, that with the lightest, longest, easiest to hit driver on the face of the earth, I can't hit it 310+ on average. I'm a realist, I've measured a lot of drives, and I have several friends who are or were tour players, and to see them hit a driver is really amazing. I have a friend who is an amateur, but one of the best ballstrikers I've ever met (nearly scratch with absolutely no short game). He swings his driver about 100 mph, but he can still outdrive me. Why? Because he hits the center of the clubface every time. That's requires a very good swing, really good. Even he only averages maybe 270. Most people measure their longest drives, and file it away as an average. They quickly forget about their mishits.

Roccos 266 is after 16 drives this year. Look at previous years his average goes anywhere from 277 - 289. I wasnt using the tour winners as a comparitive measure for us, but merely a swing speed comparision that keeps coming up.
