Considering ditching my 3 wood and going with a 4 wedge lineup because there aren't many situations for me where the distance loss from hitting hybrid instead of 3 wood is detrimental and I think I'd benefit from having a bridge between my 52* gw and 58* lw (would go 52, 56, 60 if I switched)

I'm an inconsistent ball striker but I've recorded "rough" distances (more times than not) on the range. There have been times where I've hit the ball about 205 with my 6i but it's very rare. Carry distance: D:275-280 3W: 250 5w: 235 4i: 215 5i: 200 6i: 185 7i: 175 - this one I know is 100%. love the 7. 8i: 160 9i: 150 Pw: 135 52*: 120 56*: 100

I think there are some on here who have either exaggerated their numbers or put the longest number they have hit with the club, even if it was only once. We also have to consider the lofts of the clubs they are using. Some irons these days have such strong lofts that a 7 iron almost becomes a 6 iron. So there is a lot to how some people hit there irons so far ( well how they claim to hit them so far). The loft on my irons are a degree stronger than most, mainly because I hit the ball very high so I wanted them one degree stronger to combat my super high ball flight. My 7 iron is my 170 yard (about 155m) club. I can get it to go up to around 175 if I need to, but 170 is just a solid swing. I don't really see a point into claiming you hit the ball farther than you do, your just going to hurt yourself and your game and your scores by leaving a lot of approach shots short.

That would be an interesting thread!  For me it would be like

Yep, I hit a 3-hybrid about 30 yards further last night.

With the addition of a bushnell this year, I'm pretty confident in my yardages Lw- 50 and in Sw-50 to100 Gw- 120 Pw- 135 9 - 145 8-165 7-180 6- 190 5-205 4-215 3- 225 3 wood 260 from tee and deck Driver- I have no idea. Hit a 307 today but probably average with roll out 280 Putter- deadly from inside 1 foot

It alsy varies from day to day. Some days I just can't seem to get distances and other days it goes like nothing.

Weird sport :)

Not down here.  I can back a driver up in the fairway right now.  Very soft due to a LOT of rain lately.  Courses play long for shorter hitters like me these days. :-(

The 9w is giving me the distance I would expect from 7w so I didn't get one. The hybrid irons I built myself and are the best addition to my bag over the last ten years. My current Hndcp index is about 7.8 going down with the Callaway FT Optiforce Woods. I have gained 10-15 yards in distance this year with my irons and have no explanation why. It has surprised me. I live near sea level and that hasn't changed.

If you think you drive it further than these guys consistantly you're high. The PGA avg is 288. You don't play 7200 yd courses every day. If you did you could just add about 10 to your handicap. http://www.cbssports.com/golf/stats/stats_leaders/PGA/2013/drivingDistance

Only when there are about 50 people watching you, and it's a really easy slightly uphill lie with only 15 yards to the pin. :-$

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.

    • I have been on a roll in November. Today was a 77 (69.2/115, 6,050 yards) on a wet course with dew covered bumpy greens. Better greens and I might have shaved a few more strokes off the score.
