Oh, to be Stewart Cink right now. He's one of the all-around good guys in professional golf, but this is probably his best chance to win a major championship, and absolutely no one -- maybe not even himself -- wants to see him do it.

my sentiments exactly. in fact, if he does beat watson, he's bound to get some hate mail/calls for the next few weeks.

Lovely up and down on the second playoff for Tom.

What a bummer this turned out to be. Good job for Stewart Cink though.

Looks like a god awful result in the open, a true legend of golf beaten.

What a terrible disappointment

Lee Westwood looked like a NASCAR automobile. I counted 10 different visible logos/sponsors on his hat and shirts today.

I am very disappointed in how this ended. The wheels completely fell off for Watson. What was he for the playoff? About +9?

Well look on the bright side, at least an American won.

Congrats to Stewart Cink and to Tom Watson for making this such a memorable Open. I can honestly say I didn't miss Tiger or Phil at all.

so john daly didn't do too bad for himself, i don't think. didn't exactly come close to winning, but he made the cut and his final score was better than players like vijay and sergio. maybe this'll be a springboard for him to get back to playing pro-level golf. or maybe it'll be a springboard back into the casinos and another divorce. who knows.

too bad there for Tom. he completely choked there at the end.

but I'm happy for Stewart. he's been one of those guys who's been around for a while but just hasn't won the big one. hats off to him.

I really hoped Tom would make the put at 18, but when he missed, it felt Cink had the upper hand from the start. Anyway, interesting tournament. Unfortunately my favorite Henrik Stenson couldn't really pull it together to contend. Still a decent T13-finish, to go together with the top10 at the US Open.

Congratulations to Stewart Cink... he played very well over 4 days and glad to see him pick up a major, always thought he was capable!

Was obviously disappointed for Watson... really he should have won and I was convinced he would after his tee shot at the last... I'm sure that weak attempt for par at 18 will haunt him for a while!

My man Duval missed the cut sadly... beginning to wonder if that US Open finish was a flash in the pan after all... I do hope not!

Bit off topic I know but can someone tell me, if you finished second in the US Open (or any major) this year do you automatically qualify for the PGA Championship next month? I looked on the field list and Duval isn't mentioned...

SO bummed for Tom. Hit a perfect shot into 18 and he was dead straight all day long. Almost seems unfair.

I bet Lee Westwood is kicking himself right now for that 3 jack on 18.

I follow Cink on Twitter - his number of followers took a slight bump, up ~5,000. Guess NBC gave him a "Twitter" bump. Some of his Tweets are interesting, especially the pics of Scotland and they are correctly spelled and punctuated.

I'm happy Stewart earned a major after kicking away a chance at Southern Hills a while back.

Gutted for Tom of course, but he's got nothing to be ashamed of.

I wonder after this performance if Jack, Arnie, Gary, Lee, Billy and some of the other seniors will be at the gates at Hazeltine demanding a spot.

    • I speak for myself. If I inventory my swing thoughts, swing tempo, optimum muscle tension and rehearse a swing before I take my address, then I pull the trigger reasonably quickly with usually acceptable results. Like a proper program download before deploying it. If I don't bother to by forgetting or just not caring, I am inclined to look for my cues while hovering over the ball after taking the address, while tension builds up and then I fire with half ass program that is still buffering. I guess that's no better than rolling a dice. In other words, a good pre-shot routine does wonders. I am not advising folks to take 13 practice swings but one or two are reasonable. I am certain hitting half ass shitty shots and making double bogey takes longer than making a par.  My desire this year is to just that as I have not developed a habit taking a practice swings at all and have tendency to freeze over the ball after address. I think that is what @saevel25 is talking about in the OP.

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.

    • As long as it's from a reputable seller it should be just fine. Just make sure the picture of the weight looks the right shaped weight for that specific driver head. You can even weigh it yourself when you get it if you want to be extra sure. Personally I don't consider $15 for something that can greatly change your impact and delivery characteristics to be "not cheap" but that's just my opinion. Especially since you know it's bringing it closer to what you were fit into and you're already saving a bunch of money by going the used/prior model year route too.
