I'm reviewing 'The Knick' an I got the screener for the first episode yesterday. It airs on Friday, and I strongly recommend that people watch it. Really good pilot episode.

Interesting. Thanks!

FWIW, I did just remember another show with the same format. Top of the Lake, a BBC show from a few years ago that's on Netflix. Elisabeth Moss plays the main character, a detective in New Zealand. That show was excruciatingly slow though. The payoff was good at the end, but my god were there a lot of slow parts.

I tried to watch that one but didn't make it through the first episode. I remember it not being what I expected it to be, though I can't remember exactly what it was, and we turned it off after a few minutes.

You mean you're not into TV shows that revolve around the disappearance of pregnant 12-year-olds?!? It was definitely a weird show. If you told me before I watched it a few months ago how slow it was going to be, I probably just wouldn't have watched it. The ending was good though, I'll give it that.

Actually, I must be thinking of something else because I just asked my wife about it and she said she watched the whole thing and it was great. Also, disappearing 12 year old pregnant girls is my favorite sub genre,

The Killing was based on Forbrydelsen, a Danish show. There are 3 seasons I think. Imho I think the Danish version is better. Season for season. It was so popular in Denmark, the BBC bought the rights, and then it attention in the US. The pace is a little faster. Everything gets tied up at the end of the season. Plenty of police and political intrigue. There are little nods to the Danish version in the America series. Another Danish show, Bron/Broen is also in the noir-ish cop drama category. And the UK/France and US each made a version. The Tunnel and The Bridge. There is also The Fall on Netflix with the woman from the X Files. It's slow paced as well but I couldn't get past episode 1.

I'm about halfway through the first season of Orphan Black. It's quite good. Although I find it very...Canadian.

Okay, The Leftovers. I understand there's no reveal about Oct 14. I'm fine with that. But if you're going to introduce more WTFs, holy Wayne, Justin Sr hearing voices and Justin's blackouts, there better be answers. I bet we're not getting them this season. Grrrrrrr......

I watched the 1st 2 eps on Amazon. On the fence but with this recommendation, I'll keep going with it. Interesting concept, just not sure where they're going with it. I'm a sucker for anything that says "sci-fi."

Finally caught up on the last three episodes. Some dragging moments, some soul-crushing bleakness, but that most recent episode (the flashback one) ... holy shit. That ending. Whoa.

It's a good show, most recent episode was very entertaining.

@nevets88 , yeah don't expect too many answers about Oct 14. By the end of next season we'll be wrapped up in another mystery and won't even care about Oct 14, that's how Lindelof does it. Hopefully he did learn from Lost and has the ending already planned out.

OK, I heard about the latest Leftovers episode, it's pretty... epic I hear. Looking forward to it tonight.

Totally forgot about Doctor Who. Will have to catch up next episode.

Got distracted - catching up on season 3 of The Shield. Awesome show.

Oh man True Blood has been a train wreck for a few years now. I'm glad it's over. Not really impressed with the finale, either.

Holy. That last minute of The Leftovers. I watched the last minute of the show over and over again and even played along with the music on the piano. Wow.

    • Decibels is sound 'pressure' not wave frequency. From that perspective a SGI Iron will have very different pressure wave than a blade even with the same speed and other variables considered equal. Additionally, since your phone will not be in direct path the turbulence difference (which generates the sound 'pressure) will have much lesser variance. In other words you will have convergence at one particular speed. Maybe it's this 90MPH speed with your 6i. But I doubt you will have proportional deviation above or below the speed to give you anything will reliability.  And other speeds? 80, 90?
    • You could have saved us all some time by realizing I tend to know what I'm talking about when it comes to science and tech. 😛  What? The only way they would imply that it would be "possible" is if you were able to spend six figures (minimum) AND that doesn't include the swing robot that could reach peak speed at the same exact location every time. No, they didn't say it was possible for someone like you to do anything remotely good. Session to session. The PRGR doesn't work the same way - it samples the speed, from behind (inline with the direction of travel) with radar, and takes the highest number it registers. The distance from the PRGR isn't super relevant. You're not reading. Or understanding. No to both. The former is because of the microphones, and the latter is because a clubhead swing more closed versus more open will have a different air flow and thus a different pitch and volume. Clubheads are not symmetrical. You're missing the point. How reflective some of that stuff is could matter. The sounds it generates to background noise could matter. 85 dBs is generally considered ear-injuring volume. You don't "need to find an app" because this will not work at all.
