I carry 260 with my driver in average. This last weekend i was paired up with a gay that killed the ball.
Finally in one hole we both hit good drivers to the middle of the fairway. He won by 50 yards... but he was not accurate inside 150 yards so we shoot around the same score in the end, we have the same handicap so it was logical short game was his big weakness.
Distance is important but without control and a respectable short game is usless.

I don't know the whole story here but it seems like you both may not be hitting fairways. This is usually more costly on your approach shots adding a shot per hole at times. I hit it a reasonable distance, less lately but if I am not hitting fairways, I can be a "longer" way off the beaten path than shorter hitters. If your playing partner was hitting fairways, hit might have made lower scores.

250 average carry means your average driver swingspeed is near 105mph.  Not bad at all.

I planted myself behind the 250ish par 3 during a USO practice round a couple of weeks ago and watched the ball flights of irons and hybrids. Granted some of them were carrying 230, there were quite a number of misses, greens not hit, so if you're carrying 250 and reasonably accurate, I'd say you're doing pretty well.

Cool chart.  Having had my swing speed measured while testing new drivers this past winter, the chart is accurate.  It is also really close to what I expect from the rest of the arrows in my quiver.  Thanks for sharing.

I don't think that chart is entirely accurate. If you have a good smash factor then your carry distance should be closer to 2.6 times the club head speed. I can carry over 320 but with that chart my speed should be much higher than what it is unless I have a great smash factor. From my recent time on flight scope my club head speed ranged from 127-133. At the driving range it seems on average I carry around 320ish with going a good bit further sometimes.

I would love to carry 250 on average. According to GC2 during lessons/practice, I have carried 250 a few times. But I'm usually in the 230 to 240 range on good strikes. I'm plan to eventually invest in SuperSpeed to get me closer to the 250+ average carry mark. I have never been fitted for my driver (or any club for that matter). So perhaps there is something to be gained there. I plan to get fitted with my golf instructor in July.

Also, Game Golf has been great in helping with accurately learn my distances. I know it measures total distance of shots, but it still gives a good idea of where my carry distances are at.

The numbers are from the Titleist website.

New as they are to the world of golf, I should think they have some data to back up the numbers. ;-)

No doubt. Those numbers are probably fairly accurate for my D2 but not my other drivers. Backspin plays a huge roll here.

I am just getting back into the game at 47yrs old, after a long lay off (I was never any good because I didn't play enough but have a bit more time now so putting some effort in).

I am way way behind the distances that some people seem to claim.  With my Callaway RBZ driver (10.5), I am lucky if I carry 200. A good drive from me seems to be in the the 210-220 range (maybe a littel further if I hit one without my usual fade).

I tried out a Callaway Rogue driver today on a launch monitor at the golf shop. A good hit (probably as well as I can hit it) was carrying 215-220 and getting to 230 total.  Most people I see at the range don't get anywhere close to the 250 marker.

I don't believe people who say they average 290/300 - obviously some can, but I'd want to see it to believe it.

I'm pretty honest about my distances, I tee off with my 20+ year old 3 wood, on a flat fairway I get about 200 yards including roll. Swing Speed is about 90mph.

    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. I bolded the big group of each set.  Most beneficial with the weather Round 1: No. 1 tee, Round 2: No. 10 tee 7:40 a.m., 12:30 p.m.: Mark Hubbard, Thorbjørn Olesen, Mac Meissner 7:52 a.m., 12:42 p.m.: Bud Cauley, Vince Whaley, Chandler Phillips 8:04 a.m., 12:54 p.m.: Emiliano Grillo, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Max Greyserman 8:16 a.m., 1:06 p.m.: Kevin Yu, Cam Davis, Gary Woodland 8:28 a.m., 1:18 p.m.: Ricky Castillo, Ryan Gerard, Patrick Cantlay 8:40 a.m., 1:30 p.m.: Adam Schenk, Garrick Higgo, Matt McCarty 8:52 a.m., 1:42 p.m.: Brian Harman, Maverick McNealy, Davis Riley 9:04 a.m., 1:54 p.m.: Sami Valimaki, Lucas Glover, Matt Fitzpatrick 9:16 a.m., 2:06 p.m.: Michael Brennan, Harris English, J.T. • We have a very difficult but mostly showy course this week. Lets see what they got. This course offers so many chances to get into trouble it is really a mental minefield. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
