I would love to carry my clubs, but... My Dunlop bag isn't exactly the lightest one out there, so I use a pull cart.

Carrying my bag is ok if its just a 9, but I play 27 holes each time I go out, which is any weekday in which it is not raining. A golf cart would be too expensive(as it is not included in my monthly pass of unlimited green fees and driving range use of only $44 a month) and I do not care what shape your in 27 holes every day is just not gonna happen.

I carry my bags because I can. I don't need the cart, so why spend the money for it?

Why

thank you! it seems like youre the only one actually THINKING about what i wrote.

im not talking about a motorized cart, im talking about a PUSH cart. not a PULL cart which is ghey. there really isnt anywhere you can put a bag that you cant put a pushcart. the claim that you want your stuff nearby is garbage. if golf is your only exercise then carry the bag. otherwise, there are better ways or working out. and again, its costing strokes.

I read Golf For Dummies by Gary McCord, where he says that push/pull carts make you look funny. Ever since the Bag Boy has been relegated to the basement. But seriously, I have to carry in tournaments so I practice how I play. Plus you burn a few more calories, and you warm up a little faster.

And I hate driving carts.

See, that I understand. If you have to carry in the touraments you play, then practice how you play. As for McCord's statement about looking "Funny", this is coming from a guy who used to play in orange or green checkerd pants :). Times change and what was funny a generation ago is accepted now.

Threads like this give the "Is golf really a sport?" argument some merit.

I admit I usually use a cart, I just don't see the sense in carrying a bag for 4 hours.

I dunno. I have a light, well balanced bag and I just enjoy carrying it. I've been carrying for 48 years and I hope to for a lot longer.

i cant think of a good reason why one would want to carry their clubs. the modern push carts (sun mountain, bag boy...) are so good, theres no reason not to have one. if youre doing it for the exercise, there are better ways to get your cardio/lift on. besides, its been shown to cost you strokes by the time you get to the end of your round. the tour guys dont carry their clubs, why would you?

Like zeg said, I carry my clubs because I can. Why would I pay for a service that I don't need? Plus, I really believe that I'm in good enough shape that it doesn't affect my score. I know when I ride, I score about 1 to 3 shots higher than when I walk. And when I use a cart, maybe it's my mental game, but I don't think I play as well.

I play better when I carry, it's more convenient to have everything with you, and it's good exercise. The only exception is when the hotter months roll around here in Phoenix/Scottsdale -- then you almost can't take in enough water to justify it.

I do all three depending on the situation. I first perfer carrying--I've got two great Ogio bags, one with schling set thanks to poster on this forum Geekgolfer. Next would be my Sun Mountain push cart. Then ride.

By keeping my boots on the ground I stay focused and get great exercise the fun way. Tis NOT a good walk spoiled.

Are you trolling or this a real opinion?

there are courses like this? Why on earth would they do this. They might as well not allow you to walk in the fairways. oh and I use a push cart. Before I bought one I never thought id use one. I didnt see the point seeing as my bag was light etc.........but after buying one and using one Push Cart >>>>>>>>>Carrying. Pull carts on the other hand are complete garbage and I would never use one of those.

I use one becase I want to and I like it...

Walking with my bag does not cost me strokes and I play better. Anything else disrupts my rhythm.

I just feel cool carrying my bag, straps over shoulders and my arms draped around the clubs.

It's the epitome of BADASS

I'm not talking about the 90 degree rule or cart paths only, I mean you can't go anywhere near the greens or teeboxes.

I admit it affects my game the first couple of times out each season, but it makes no difference after that. I would rather spend the money and time at the golf course instead of the gym.
