I am the other way around, I think its kinda lame to wear a "titleist" or "Taylormade" type hats, when I see that I think "oh look at this tool he thinks hes a pro or something." When I see a guy with a Yankees, or Knicks, or MICHIGAN (Go blue) cap, I think, okay this guy is a so and so fan. My michigan cap is my FAVORITE cap, ive had it for years, and there are sweat stains on the bill to prove it lol.

I agree. GO GATORS! I have one of those hats too.

my get up and go musta got up and went..

I am actively searching for an all white Dodgers hat.

Check out mlb.com- the new Stars & Stripes hats are white with a blue bill. Go Dodgers!

As for the OP- I don't care what anyone wears on their head. Sometimes it's fun to know which team a fellow player is rooting for so you can strike up a conversation to go along with the round of golf- this is especially handy when you play with strangers.

In my C-130 bag:

Driver: G10 10.5*
3 Wood: Burner
Irons: G10 steel AWT shafts, silver dot, +1" (3-SW)Wedge: cg12 58*Putters: Squareback 2, California Coronado Low score (18 holes): 90Low score (9 holes): 42

I was having a conversation with a friend regarding the use of sport team hats (not golf of course) on the course.

No commercial advertising of any kind... not on my head, not on my bag. They don' t pay me, I don't give them a free plug. On the rare occasions that I wear a baseball style cap, it's one of a dozen different US Open logo caps that I get for my USGA membership. Mostly I wear a wide brim Tilley hat.

I usually wear either my Red Sox hat or my Cubs hat (I was a Cubs fan growing up, then adopted the Sox when I lived in Boston for most of a decade... I've never had to choose between teams; not sure who'd win out. I don't see any reason why it matters whether your hat coordinates with your sport (or your outfit for that matter, I don't include headwear in an "outfit," even to the minimal degree that I think about any part of the outfit).

I've just placed an order for a pair of tams in the official Nova Scotia tartan, though. Sort of a souvenir from a trip last week to visit family there (the shop was closed while I was there or I'd have brought it back with me). Going to give one to my friend who's coming to town to go up and watch the US Open and make him wear it for the golf we play. Nothing like looking like a fool on the course! Plus, maybe we can get on TV as a couple of nuts in Scottish hats during the US Open!

But, I am actively searching for an all white Dodgers hat.

I've got an all blue Brooklyn Dodgers hat. My father went to a few Brooklyn games as a kid, and he just found a couple Brooklyn hats a few years ago. Because it is just a "B" logo, because the Sox make hats in all different colors, and because of where I live, most people think it's a Red Sox hat, but the logo is a touch different. There is a little sort of chunk taken out of the B:

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

I usually wear the hat from my favorite course. I feel like I look goofy in hats, so I don't have too many to choose from. I'd feel awkward wearing Titleist or TaylorMade though as if they were sponsoring me when I shoot my 110.

If you're worried about giving someone a free plug, you could also clear your signature.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

As you can also no doubt tell from that same sig, I have no brand loyalty. I have no problem touting what I actually use, but I'm not going to be a walking billboard for any specific brand. Find someone else to take a dig at.

Any thoughts.... Keep it golf related or use whatever?

I think it depends on the course dress code. There are at least two local courses here that state "no logos" on any attire.

Seriously. The best thing about absurd dress codes is that it makes it easy to avoid the sorts of twits who enact them.

I wear whatever goes with what I'm wearing. I kind of like the non-golf look, I think adds to conversation pieces with people you don't know. I've always had compliments from my Florida Gators hats or driver head cover.

I think when I'm older I'll go full brim straw hat.

What courses are those? I played golf all around New Hampshire and never ran into that problem.

One of them is Portsmouth Country Club. I don't recall the other one but it might have been private.

Edit: At Portsmouth, I was on the range with a Ferrari Racing cap on and was asked to remove it.

North Face caps fit my head so I wear them. Theres no logo on the front, but there's a tiny one on the back. Does that make me a walking billboard too? You've used the term "Tilly Hat" many times. Why not just say "wide brimmed hat"?

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
