There is a local public course that I used to love to play but probably haven't played it in 6-7 years. Every time I would go out there, you would have the 2 or 3 groups that were drinking and holding up the entire course. A weekend round was always 5.5-6 hours. The course does absolutely nothing about it (or at least didn't at the time). All the other public courses are city owned and alcohol is not allowed, so anyone that wants to drink and play goes to this place. I may have to give it another try this year, but I am sure I will be disappointed. It is a shame too, it is a nice layout and a fun course to play.

You aren't talking about Deer Lake are you? Hate that course.

I don't understand this.Golf and Beer..?They just don't go together.I honestly can't think of a less interesting place to drink than on a Golf course. You need to be co-ordinated to play golf decently at the best of times so being drunk ain't gonna help.If people aren't going to give Golf a serious try during their round, they're better off not going out there, because they'll just annoy everyone else and slow things up.Also, it seems there's a thread about someone being drunk on the course every other week.. is it a common thing in the States?I mean, I'm

The Irish I know will tell you that they are immune to the effects of alcohol. ;)

Yes it's common but keep in mind that they're drinking beer much lighter than, say, guinness, and much worse tasting.

Worse than Guinness? Damn that must be some nasty stuff.

I have never drank while playing golf, even on outings. Part of me feels it would help me because I am not a sloppy drunk but I tend to get tense and over think things. I think a few would help me relax. I've heard the term "swing lube" before. I'm playing tomorrow might have a few marzens before hand...

I don't normally drink on the course but

Played golf before my Stag party, that involved alot of drinking. So much so the non-golfer won the day.

The other weekend we were playing a Mixed tourney (usually a fun tourney) and it was freezing, like I could'nt feel my hands for 5 holes, I had a thermos of coffee with me, we got the the 6th tee, there was a bit of a wait so I poured myself a coffee, a scotish chap in our group comes over, pulls out a hip flask and pours a shot of whisky into my coffee. I tell ya what, it warmed me from the inside for about 4 holes.

Drunk and golf go together like Cookies in Milk, some serious great times. My personal favorite was during a twilight round we joined up with the foursome infront of us to make an eightsome lol. Teed off 4 at a time in unison to the count of 1, 2, 3 FIRE!!!!!!! whoever hit the best ball was safe everyone else had to chug made the game pretty hillarious and fun.

Best part was we didnt notice a group infront of us coming to cut across our fairway and right as there about to walk out into the fairway they here "FIRE!!!" and 4 balls land within about 30ft of them.. They had a great laugh and so did we, so we formed a 12some to finish out that hole, whoever won was safe everyone else had to finish there beer. Smgts.

Don't get me wrong! I love fishing! Almost as much as I love golf. My hobbies generally go in this order:

I just think that is pure cruelty.

Catching a fish and eating it is one thing, but using it as a musical instrument just crosses the line.

Ive never seen a "sloppy" drunk guy at a golf course. Not even during an outing..

Consider yourself lucky! I can't get over seeing the foursomes that get coolers (each) for an 8:00 tee time. Hey, I like beer as much as anybody, but good lord, a six-pack at 8:00 AM??? Even better yet, beers at the turn and after the round, then they all drive home separately. Just what we need...four drunks on the road!

I VERY rarely drink while playing. I just don't care for it. At the absolute most, if I've had a rough front 9, I'll get 1 beer at the turn, but that's it. On top of that, paying $4 for a Miller Lite just doesn't make much sense to me.

Hey I like Guinness! Not for golf though.. It's more of a dark pub feel. I usually have one beer during the front and one for the back. Nothing like a cold beer on a hot day while playing some golf :) I wouldn't have more (or at least not much more) than that though...

Cheers

ding, ding, ding

Like the course, hate the atmosphere.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I worked at the ultimate white trash muni for several years while in college. It was byob and cheep to boot. We had lots of flipped carts, fights, cart tracks on the greens...you name it. If i could...without offending anyone...i would like to describe the typical drunken low-life. His name is Jody and he shows up in a camero or trans-am...at least 10 years old. Jody wears some type of mesh shorts usually champion brand and they never go all they way to the knees. A bright colored tank top with a nike swoosh or rebock logo adorns him and long socks, macgregor astro turf cleats and dual batting gloves complete the ensemble. We cannot forget the oakley blades and a hat with a beer logo on it. Jody is a hack, in fact his irons which he keeps in a vinyl bag have not been re gripped in 20 plus years. This does not keep our hero from yelling like a banshee in labor at every shot he takes as if he expects each to be a pin seeker. He of course drinks heavily to feed his demons. The deeper he gets into the course, the deeper he gets into the case of beer. Ever growing is the trail of "emptys" strewn all over the rough and fairways. As the day wears on and the afternoon heat sets in, Jody begins to get violent. At first with other Jodys in his foursome, but usially ending with another golfer who "stole his ball" or "dis-respected" him by showing him up at the tee box. Jody ends the day yelling at the cart boy and pro when they question the damage to the cart. He then speeds out of the lot in a cloud of blue smoke blasting sweet home alabama on his way to see the "weed man"

LOL. You had me laughing with the camaro bit, and by the champion mesh short bit I was rolling. The worst part about that guy is he can on occassion bomb a couple drives 280 or so throughout the day. That's usually the only shot he has in the bag.

Me neither. I've never even seen loud and obnoxious but not quite to sloppy. I've gotten a minor buzz on by 18 once or twice (thought I usually don't drink at all on the course... too obsessed with breaking my personal best...), but have never seen anyone drink more than what would result in about that level of intoxication on the course. And I play only munis...

    • That answers my question.  That feels more natural to me. I'll work on that. Thanks
    • Complex question. Good players begin pushing forward around P2. Visibly around P3. They're well on their way forward at P4.
    • Still plugging away with the teacher.  I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place?  Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ?  I ask because in one of my drills  I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go.  Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.
    • Tentatively in for at least one of those days. My job situation is a bit up in the air at the moment so need to get that sorted out first then I'll know more for sure or not.
