You know, I was bored and watched a few videos on the Golf Channel instructor search. Two random observations...

1) To many of you: seriously, that's the best technically you can do? Rent an HD camera and a wireless mic for the day. Or borrow someone who knows what they're doing and give 'em a free lesson.

2) They need a way to vote negatively or comment on the videos.

An example of #2 - perhaps the worst I saw (I only watched a few videos): Byron Schultz. This dude tells you how to fix a pull-slice. After literally saying that the path determines the starting line and the face determines the spin, he tells us that golfers hit pull slices with a clubface that's pointing to the right of the target. The toe "lags behind" the heel.

C'mon. Seriously? What year do we live in? This stuff's been known for awhile now...

I could probably comment on each one, but that means I'd have to watch them all.

P.S. I intend to make Dave Wedzik do a video submission, not because he really even wants to do this, but because it'll be an excuse to put together a nice pair of videos.

When I first saw this on the Golf Channel, I thought of you guys. I say, GO FOR IT!

I can recall the good old days of the Golf Channel when there were a multitude of golf instructors who either had their own shows on Golf Academy, or just came in the studio to do an hour with Peter Kessler (boy, do I miss him) on Golf Academy Live. I can remember Butch Harmon, Jim Hardy, Jim McLean, David Leadbetter, Dave Pelz, Jim Flick, Dean Reinmuth, and many others whose names escape me. They were not all household names at the time, but they are now.

Who knows? I certainly had never heard of Michael Breed before got his show. It could happen to you guys. But then, when you get famous and franchise out your golf academies worldwide, you won't have time for us poor Sandtrappers. Never mind....

Dave's not even entirely sure he'd do it if chosen. I think he's unaware of the fact that you can record 8 shows at a time. I did some video production for a show that eventually sold to the Discovery Channel. They ordered 24 shows - 12 delivered by a certain date and 12 by another date. It was up to us when we filmed 'em.

Michael Breed's show is live and he likes to have feedback, so he does it weekly (live). But not every show needs to be done that way at all.

Do you really think they are up for S&T right now? If Foley admits that he is teaching S&T to Tiger, everything would go.

It'll be interesting anyways - go for it, full tilt! :D

Just searched for this topic here, and behold! Here it is.
Srsly, do the videos and submit! Make it a full on SnT, ball flight science-based video. Include the ball flight laws/diagrams! You guys rock it!! Even the 'geeky golfer' thing is cool.

I have to agree. I watched a couple of videos and the ones I watched were pretty bad.

Saw one they previewed on Golf Central or something the other day and the teacher instructed you to play every single shot with the ball in the middle of your stance, even driver. Can't remember her reasoning, but I pretty much stopped listening after that.

Am I right in thinking that there is a common idea on The Sandtrap that S&T is some new, "out there" technique that the general public is not ready for, and that if the actual term was used in the same sentence as Tiger, the sky would fall and the golfing world would change?

Iacas has made it pretty clear that some of the basics of S&T are seen in (and have ben seen in) many if not ,most good swings. The way I see it, S&T is a language, not a religion.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Andrew Rice gets my vote so far (and not just because he's also an expat South African). Presentation is slightly manic, but the info is solid and the sense of humor has not been lost. "Join us next week where I'll show you how to hit longer irons by taking one extra club!"

Stretch.

I liked the Rice video too. I watched about a dozen of the entries so far and this one, the Lynn Blake, and guy in the black with the 50 yard driver tip.

The most popular viewed on YouTube - Ritter - was too new age-ish for me. It is *the* best produced video and the delivery was very like a professional actor, but I really didn't get anything out of it.

He never explained what the point of the towel was.... I assume that if you aren't hitting down on the ball, that your club would strike the towel first?

I'm glad to see Jeff Ritter entering the contest. I hope he gets selected, not only because he is a Jim Hardy disciple, but I like how he combines swing ideas with mental ideas to improve your game. It may be new ageish for some, but I really like his philosophy about the joy of the game not being just about how to have a better swing. By the way, he does have some excellent videos on youtube that are all about the swing, no philosophy included.

Yup. An even better way to do it is to cut off a short length of one of those foam kids' pool noodles and tack it down with a couple of tees.

I have to admit, if you guys do enter you might have a decent chance. With all this Foley-Tiger-Stack and Tilt the Golf Channel might want to cash in.

So far Andrew Rice's is my favorite.

Too bad they were due yesterday. I think I misread the rules and thought you had until December or something. That's apparently when they'll choose people. I blame a poorly laid out rules sheet.

I'd love to see Blake do it, but I'll have to agree with Erik that he moves too fast and talks about things the average golfer don't have a clue what is.

Anything will be better than Breed in my eyes. Mostly because I find him downright annoying. Getting a TGM'er, S&T'er or at least in the same vicinity would be nice. Someone who can explain why you want what to happen and how.

What a pity: no S&T then. Well, then you and Dave and James have more time doing videos and DVDs and other fancy stuff for us :D

    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
