Here's a hint. If your clubs fit you even reasonably well, but you can't hit them, work on the swing. A good player who plays all stiff shafted blades can still shoot around his handicap with a set of ladies flex hybrid irons. My newest club is my driver, which is a 2007 model, fairway wood and 2 iron are early 2000s to late 90s perhaps, irons are around 2005, wedges around the early to mid 2000s, and my putter is 25 years old.

Do you know how much better I'd play with the newest, most high tech equipment? None. You know why? Because the same bozo is swinging the damn things no matter what. People vastly overestimate how much technology helps their game. The difference between an old blade and a modern hybrid is less than you'd think. Miss the center of the face by an inch on either one, and you're not hitting a good shot. The real difference is a mishit of about 1/2".

I played up to handicap 9 in a year of starting golf. Couldn't hit a driver to save my life, relied on 4 irons basically. I am pretty long of the tee, my size (6"7) helps I guess. Anyway, tried out an R9 driver today. Absolute. Sex. Grin on my face everytime I pulled it out of the bag. Sometimes the arrow influences the indian, pal. And if you want to bitch and moan at people, fix your damn grammar at least.

Can't figure out how to aim this reply at Golfro. Anyway, 9 handicap (or 6.7) is still terribad. SO much room for imrovement.

lol. nice...out of your post the only thing you can throw at me was my grammar? Please be more specific about how the arrow "sometimes" influences the indian instead of making some generic statement. your argument had absolutely no substance, just blabber.

and again, whos bitching and moaning? what do i have to bitch about? its not a complaint. i'm just stating my opinon regarding a very common mindset that many amateurs have. if you took the time to read through the thread, you would have noticed that i mentioned that getting fitted IS important. The point I was trying to make was that you should get fitted for the right clubs and be done with it and go play some golf. instead amateurs spend so much time and money buying one driver after another expecting one to somehow fit their swing. Its not. No two swings are the same...so get fitted for the right one and go golf!

I lived down in Dallas area during the 1990s. I went to a 36-hole public course that had a great pro shop.

The club fitter guy there saw I had irons more than 10 years old. He told me that if I wanted to switch irons, to let him know, because lots of rich guys in the area traded irons in every six months. He said he made it a policy to give the rich guys chump change for trade-ins so he could give serious golfers a good deal on slightly used clubs.

I was a college student at the time and had low $$, so I had to pass. But, the thought was nice!

That's a great "compliment the buyer" sales pitch! The pro must have meant "serious golfers" who want to buy new clubs, but probably don't need them either. What is a "serious golfer"?

A lot of pros would go broke if people didn't buy new clubs. It's their money, they can do what they want.

Yet you doubted a guy's (I believe an 8 handicap) distance a few days ago because he had a stiff flex shaft.

I can't hit my wife's clubs at all and I hit regular shafts. Any sort of normal swing sends the thing more lateral than straight. I take it you were stretching things to illustrate a point. Or you have never tried to hit a ladies flex club.

Slightly different, but I said he'd not be able to

average 300+ with an off the rack "S" flex shaft. He would hook the piss out of the ball. A guy who averages 300+ will be swinging about 120 mph. But give a good player a set of ladies flex hybrids, assuming they're the proper lie angles, and he will be able to adapt and shoot somewhere near his average.

A lot of people say they can do that in theory, but let's see the proof. My wife's clubs, which I've only hit at the range, are lower and shorter for the woods and higher and shorter for the irons. I suspect there'd be a lot of missed greens and swearing.

Any set of irons is about the same to me if they have the right shaft. Put a whippy shaft in my woods and irons and it's snap hooks galore. Is it just that I'm swinging differently based on how the shaft feels? Different how? Different from the swing I practice or from the swing those shafts require?

She has a nice set of TaylorMade burners. The driver goes virtually as far and, frankly, I just play for an exaggerated draw on everything. My only fear is that I'll snap one of the clubs because they feel so whippy, but I've had fishing rods that felt worse take a lot of abuse and be fine.

That may not be "proof" but I suspect those know how me would take it as such. What reason would I have to lie about playing with my wife's clubs? P.S. Tiger Woods could break par with left-handed women's clubs on a reasonable course. Not a PGA Tour level one, but a decent little resort course or something, I've got no doubt.

If what your saying is valid, and I believe it is, my wife's clubs are garbage. There's no way I could hit her driver > 250 yards without breaking it - or just by pure fluke - but a drive less than 250 with my worst driver feels like a mishit.
