Do any of you feel like you play better in tough conditions?

I feel like I might. I was wondering what the story was for some of you.

The reason I ask is that when I go through my 'low' rounds (70 or below), only one was shot in good conditions. Most of my low rounds have came when there was some odd, natural phenomena going on (wind mainly, also cold, rain, etc.). I shot 70 on Friday - windy, cold as hell, a steady drizzle that turned to sleet (thank god I was in a cart, one of the rare times I do that).

For me, when I get 'weather', I feel like I'm so focused on getting the ball around the course and managing my mistakes that I play more GOLF vs. being out there and playing GOLF SWING (jeez, I hate to borrow a phrase I first heard from Johnny Miller but when you're right, you're right). I feel like I'm more worried about managing a crosswind or how many extra clubs do I need to hit because of the cold or how am I going to work the ball into or ride the wind on a drive or something like that. Also, I play less agressively on my approach shots when the weather sucks. Finally, I don't beat myself up as badly for misses when the conditions are tough. Regardless, when you're freezing your rear off it's hard to think about weight transfer or other mental fart-arounds.

It messes me up some, but seems to mess up other people more. Today is our last tournament for the year, and it's raining and we're still on. I am going to power through it. Steady wind I can handle, but swirling wind is terrible!

I play better in tough conditions but not weather wise. Love playing with added pressure from something significant at stake, without the pressure I just take a leisurely stroll around the course.

lately every day has been windy so Ive decided that if im going to play,im going to have to adjust and Ive been doing pretty good. Rain, well, not much of that in the last 3 months so not much of a factor.

Rain is almost non-existent out here so I rarely have to worry about it - our main issues are 110+ degree weather (in the summer) and wind. The hot weather doesn't bother me too much, but wind absolutely kills my game. I have a hard time keeping the ball down, so the wind really has its way with my shots.

I don't do any worse in tought conditions - it doesn't bother me as much as some people.

On rainy days, I basically take one more club than usual for short shots around the green - damp grass seems to eat a little clubhead speed.

Back about 1985, I played in the city tournament in the Oklahoma town where I worked. It was mid-April, and it had rained two inches the night before. Tournament went off as expected, except everyone had to walk and carry own bag. Due to wet course, no riding or pull carts.

Anyway, sun pops out and we get a 90-degree steam bath. I was in good shape a the time, running three miles twice a week, so I took the extra heat stress in stride. Most of the others were dying by the back nine, and I ended up one of only two B-flight people to shoot in the 80s. Someone else eventually won the flight, but it was nice to be tied for lead after 18.

We get plenty of random drizzle, wind around here. I tend to play with a sort of rushed feeling when the weather goes sour. Not always a bad thing, though.

I wouldn't say I play better, but I would say it doesn't bother me. I think when the conditions are bad you can blame the conditions and then shrug it off and keep playing. In good conditions you think you should have performed better and you carry that with you. While score is a huge part of the game, if you shot the same score on the same course, one in perfect conditions, one in bad, you will probably look at the one in bad conditions and think it was a better round.

I like playing b/c of pace of play. I feel like I can get in the groove and hit alot of good shots. I've shot good scores in big winds before.

Light rain doesn't seem to bother me. Colder tempertures have killed me, I don't seem to get loose or stay loose in sub 45* temps and it wrecks havoc with my swing.

I think I actually play a little worse but I like a little rain though. The sounds of the rain hitting my rain gear actually has a calming effect for me. I love it.

Enjoy playing in the rain - tend to focus a bit more, and less course traffic is another bonus. Shot two of my three lowest rounds over the past month in less than ideal conditions (lots of wind as well on one of those days). Tough conditions work out better for me: less dawdle time, increased focus, slightly quicker pace of play all help me (on average).

Absolutely not.

Today was windy as all hell (60+ mph gusts), rain/snow mix and pretty cold around 45° and my swing was all over the place. Seemingly well hit balls were floating right or left with ease. Quite frustrating.
