Well, I must be getting better - I have a ten shot lead through 27 holes at the Sony Open.

However, I'm destined to lose this tournament.  This isn't even a case of how can a man play with a lead like this... the game just popped up a message telling me I'm a choke artist!

After shooting +7 in the first round of the Masters, I was -3 for the day and right above the cutline going into the 18th hole of the second round. I proceeded to knock one in from about 160 to easily make the cut. That felt good.

It appears that some achievements carry over between mastery levels.  I eagled all except the first par-5 at the Sony before achieving silver status for that course.  I just eagled the missing par-5 and got the "eagle all par-5s" checkbox for gold mastery.

THIS JUST HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN!

I went to "switch golfer" and went to create another golfer. I DEFINITELY chose an empty slot (of which there were 3) and created a new golfer.

Everything looked fine when I was done. I went to "switch golfer" again and they were both there.

I just turned on the Xbox again and guess what - the newer golfer had replaced the older one in the top slot, leaving 3 empty slots beneath it.

Looks like I have to start my career for a third time, and play with only 1 golfer. This sucks because I wanted to make one super golfer with 100% stats and one realistic golfer with about 40-50% stats.

Anyone else had this problem? Because this is a serious deal breaker for me.

Holy crap, I just figured it out!

When you go to change golfer, only the last saved one will appear. You have to click on a slot and choose "Load user profile" or something.

It's annoying that this wasn't made clearer, and the 'digital manual' on the disc offered no help (yet another stingy effort from EA)

Has anyone been playing Tournament difficulty mode?  I've played in a couple of daily online tournaments in the Tournament mode, best I've shot was 3 under at TPC San Antonio.  I like this difficulty mode because you see more realistic scores online, the lowest I've seen anyone shoot is 12 under.

What? Why do they turn them off?

I do.  I got tired of shooting sub 60 scores and winning by 15 strokes with a beginner character and low attributes.

The game is much more fun now....

So has anyone played online yet? This game and NHL '10 are the only games I own and I would definitely regret buying Xbox Live if online play is sub-par.. pardon the pun

I played online. Just 18 holes and the other player's shots showed up as glowing lines on my screen. We weren't competing, just playing together.

You can play simultaneously or one at a time.  Pretty cool, seeing your partners lines for their shots.

I don't know, but I did sort of get used to it. Shot -5 in the second round, but I was completely lost on long putts. And putting is completely nonsensical without the caddy. The lines on the grid mean nothing because the speed is turned way up. I ended up pitching mostly on long putts, and I usually used flop shots instead of pitches off the green because it was near-impossible to stop the ball with a pitch.

Wait... it turns off the caddy?  Or is he just regularly not giving you anything useful?

Despite buying the game largely because of Augusta, I've only played the main course once through so far.  I guess that needs to change before getting to the Masters in game!  I'll also probably play it later today with Thursday pins, tomorrow evening with Friday, and so forth.

LOL

I played Augusta with a friend and the greens weren't that quick even on fast ( well not any faster than any other course )...maybe that setting is only on career mode?

Can't wait to play in it though

No, it turns off spin and power boost. But yeah, the caddy was giving me terrible shots too. Several times he told me to drive the ball in the bunker, and his reads on the greens were terrible. Especially the speed. Plus I think that putting is just made tougher for the Masters in career mode.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just career mode. I've shot in the 50s there in practice rounds when I had spin and power boost and putting wasn't so hard.

Can confirm it's only the Masters tournament where Augusta is a nightmare.  It's the only round of TW I've ever shot over par.  With a +3 the first round and me doing only 2 round tourneys, I only had one round to learn the course.  I finished at -9 for the tournament.  I got extremely versed in the nuances of the course.  Not often in TW do I forgo the par 5s in 2 strategy, but it really payed off.  Also swirling wind?  That was a new one.

Though it was very hard as a Master's tournament it was very enjoyable.  Side note: Fire your caddie.  The only time he is useful is on the greens where it is hard to judge speed.  He'll provide a decent enough ballpark.  Unless he just gives up, then I suggest flopping to near the pin.

so I rented this game (tiger woods masters 2012). I am wondering what the proper way to hit the ball on the game is, do you go straight down (backswing) and then straight up(downswing) on the joystick? I tried this method and I wasnt hitting them all that good but when I tried pushing straight down for backswing and then instead of going straight up I pushed the joystick in a half circle to the top, like this -- (    instead of straight up -- l. I dont get it but all my shots go straight and full power this way? Thanks for the help guys, dont have a user manual and they dont really train you in the game

ps. the putting on this game is very difficult for a beginner, its easy to 4 putt inside 6 feet, haha

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
