Did Tiger's 6-under on Sunday mean anything?  He can obviously play with the best day to day, but hasn't been able to put a 4-day run together.  Looked and felt like the old Tiger yesterday, could we see a win in the near future?

CARBITE Putter

It meant he is able to put together a good round of golf and shoot low. But we've known this all along, he shot a few of them at Chevron last year. He still have to do it over four days.

I think he played better last week than he has in some time, starting to get control of his shot, especially the irons. The driver can still be a bit of a loose cannon, but we're seeing less of the extreme misses. If you don't count the pop-ups of course, which could be a result of his two swings getting mixed up.

Still a way to go, but it's moving forward.

If I was him, the thing that would have encouraged me the most was the putting and ball striking. Driving was decent, not great, and same with his short game, but he was lights out with the irons yesterday and he was rolling the ball pretty well also.

Tiger has always been an extraordinary putter and it has been lacking of late.  He used to make everything and Sunday gave him a glimpse.  Putting will be the key to low scoring and increased confidence.  But to the original question...one solid day does not round the corner, but it is a step in the right direction.

I certainly hope it's a sign he's turning around.  Low round of the day - he had that maybe once last year.

I'd love nothing more than for him to win the Palmer and then the Masters.

Does it mean he's back?  I don't know.  But he stayed and chatted with the camera for more than a few seconds, so that was awesome too.

Four or five days ago I would have said no. But he did look much better yesterday and I'll take your word on todays play. I'm just now watching it. He does need to put a few rounds together before you can say he's back.

I absolutely  agree once he gives me a good three four rounds i will really believe but he is looking pretty darn good if you ask me and his next tourny is bay hill which he has won so i am excited hoping he can get back to contending. But we will see i have to stay optimistic because he is Tiger and like i said he sounds very confident right now.

i see hints of hope. he's got to work on driving the ball at least in play...and his short irons haven't been how they were (ie pulls, over fades, etc)....but he does have hints of hope based on how he's been playing at tavistock...hope it continues for golf's sake.

I honestly don't think driving is a issue he really never hits fairways consistently to be honest he just needs not hook it off the planet and he can get up and down from the rough. He has made his name by hitting great shots fromcrazy places then finishing it off with a great birdie or par putt. But i cant say that being in the fairway wont help but i know he can get out of anywhere. I am just hoping he gets it together for the Masters and puts together a magical run because i do miss those amazing shots that he hits when he needs to but i guess we will have to stay tuned.

Until Tiger wins another major Im not ready to say that he has his groove back.

. He just isnt't going to come out and win a major especially when he is changing every part of his game including putting???? You need to see progress first and that's what he is showing. You can't expect the guy to play poorly then win tournaments the very next week. But everyone is entitled to there own opinion. I know he is Tiger and we all expect greatness out of him cause what he has done no one has but at the same time you need to evaluate him on the progression that he is making you can't ignore the strides that he is finally making and say so what he hasn't won anything. But i guess at the same time you can cause he is Tiger and standards are set very very high.

If he could play one tourney with all 4 rounds in the 60s doesn't even have to win I'd say he's on his way to being back.

Bay Hill will be another indicator of progress or not.  It is a tournament he has dominated in the past.  If he finishes back in the pack again, it will be another setback, similar to Torrey Pines.  If he plays well all four days, something he hasn't done for a very long time (his tie for 10th at Doral was his best in 9 months), then maybe he will be on his way.  Only time will tell.

Do we really need a new thread for each day Tiger plays golf? Can't we have a Tiger Woods Master Thread where all his performance and otherwise irrelevant actions are discussed?

    • If you own a Stack radar (for now, it's limited to Stack radar only), and want to work on your wedge game… it turns out that wedge distances are 99% correlated to ball speed. So, with a small radar, you can practice your wedge game easily in a gamified way.
    • Day 11: 2/16/2025 Rince and Repeat: Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.
    • Quick update. So, I got the PXG Secret Weapon and I have to say I like it... mostly. (see below) I spent some time with it on the range and I even gathered some data in doors. I'm not going to post data yet, as my swing is still a bit of a work in progress and I'd like to gather some more data after I settle down a little bit more. But here's my review.  First as a driver replacement. ... IMO it is not a replacement, it's clearly more of a supplement... for me anyway. Not long enough to really replace the driver. For me it's about 20 yards short of my driver. It is longer than my 30-wood off the tee. (15 yards-ish) I will say it is easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. I get some of my best shots teeing it low, but I also get some of my worst. If I tee it about a full inch off the ground I get very consistent shots. Super repeatable. Amazingly repeatable even with my messy swing. Off the tee, I find it draw biased just a bit. You can tinker with the set up if that isn't your personal cup of tea.  As a 3-wood replacement. For me it's about perfect. It's longer than my 3-wood off the deck (my data showed 10 yards longer) and it has a gentle fade to it, which I love. You do need a clean lie, but I never hit my 3-wood off anything but a clean lie anyway. I found it interesting that I hit a gentle fade off the deck and a slight draw off a tee. I'm sure that's not uncommon. Again, you can tinker with the set up to optimize that if you wanted to... I don't want to.  It's clearly a lot longer than my 3-wood off the tee. Easier to hit off the tee than my 3 wood, and off the deck it's also longer. So, it's a no-brainer 3-wood replacement for me. I will say that over the years I've learned to use my 3-wood for this low-flying-100-yard-punch-out-from-under-a-tree shot.  I'll have to see if the Secret Weapon can handle that duty. But it's going in the bag to replace the 3-wood.  I also turned my 5-wood down from 19 degrees to 17 degrees. ... Incidentally my 3-wood had been 16 degrees. I used to always hit my 5 wood and my hybrid about the same distance. This adjustment helps my gapping a bit at the top of the bag. I can clearly hit my 5-wood farther than my hybrid now.  Overall on the PXG Secret Weapon. The good: It's clearly longer and easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. It's a bit longer off the deck than my 3-wood.  It's super forgiving... surprisingly so.  It's uber adjustable. ... Although I do suggest getting fit for it. That will save you having to (or wanting to) buy a weight kit just to try out the infinite number of set ups. The headcover is super cool.  The maybe not so good: Shots out of the middle sound great. Shots off the heal sound great. Shots off the toe sound ... what's the work... clangy? It's very forgiving off the toe and the heal. The flight and the distance are incredibly consistent. But the sound off the toe isn't great.  For me I tend to draw it off the tee and fade it off the deck. You can set it up to be biased either way, but in my hands I think if I set up a draw off the deck, that might induce a duck hook off the tee. ... In fairness that could also be where my swing is at right now.  It's pretty spendy. ... If I really stop and think about it, I paid $450 for a new 3-wood. Granted it's a better performing 3-wood. But for me it's really a 3-wood replacement.
