No doubt the class is required for people who don't already know another version of Aimpoint.  But I feel like if I already have the basic Aimpoint concepts and philosophies down from my Midpoint class, that I very well may be able to learn Express from a DVD.

Erik will tell me that's wrong though, I'm sure.

Not knowing Midpoint, I don't know how similar they are, but I know that it would have been difficult to learn Aimpoint from scratch from a DVD.  I'm sure they'll do a good job, though.

[QUOTE name="nevets88" url="/t/45791/aimpoint-green-reading/390_30#post_1096934"]   DVD coming out in March. I've seen some pretty good probably not endorsed write-ups out there. I'd still recommend taking the class though. Yeah, you're right, you can probably get a lot of it down from a video with Midpoint under your belt already. But I'd have that nagging feeling I did one or more parts wrong. Then you could just ask Erik ;-)

I can definitely see how the concept and the process can be explained on DVD, but the method would require golfers to do a lot of their own homework. There are going to be people who can learn AimPoint Express this way and there are going to be those who can't. As with all things golf, it would be much easier to learn with a live instructor(s).

I'm sure you'll learn it just fine. Can't be as hard as temperature scales, right? :-P

IMHO, getting that number 3 like Mark Swee... did in the video. That's something that's hard to convey through a screen. When you figure out that number with a live person, that makes a difference.

Yeah, this specifically was my point.  That's a feel thing and I'm not sure how they'll translate that to a DVD.

Very excited about this. I took the first class, before express, before midpoint even. I really want to learn express but I'm not paying $200 again.

Same. I even have the "Student Workbook" from the day. :tumble:

I also paid out for the Midpoint read when that was released and that made the whole "walk around the flag several times" thing quicker. lol

If I played important rounds enough I'd fork out again for Express but realistically a single round with family once per month at the absolute max and not being a member of a club at the moment for roll-ups or comps doesn't warrant yet another payment.

I think it's only about $125. Barney, you should be fine with the DVD.

I want to learn Express for those times when you can't get a midpoint read without stepping on someones line.  Currently I revert to the older method when I can't get in there.

If you have a chance though, the midpoint technique is excellent.

Yeah, thats what i use now, actually. I learned the midpoint method from the old aimpoint message boards. Someone asked mark to confirm his understanding and walked through every little detail. Since i already took a class and knew how it worked, it was pretty easy to learn the new method that way. The dvds should be even better.

I'm surprised how many "It looks kind of [some kind of stealth derogatory remark]." I get when I use AE. I do get paired up with a lot of grumpy get off my lawn I'm not gonna change I like the way things are players though. I suppose when people notice that reads are better, that attitude will change.

Unless they are better ball strikers

Speaking of AE.. just saw that " Ian Poulter" is in the mix now.

That doesn't matter. Putt for dough ;-) Why "Ian Poulter" in quotes? Is there an imposter out there?

Yeah, that would be helpful.  For now, what I do is just read it from a few feet over - or read it from the other side.  If there are people in my way on both sides, then I just go old school (i.e. ... guess ;))

  • 2 weeks later...

I can't wait to take my Aimpoint clinic in a couple of weeks.  Info gleaned from online sources has already made me a better reader of greens - excited to take it to another level with this clinic!

Just trying to find my way around
