For what it's worth, about am players and their driving range distance, I read John Richardson's book "Dream On". In it he went from picking up the game to breaking par for a round in 1 year.

He would hit to the back fence of the 300yd driving range consistently. One day some young kid was there hitting balls OVER the 300yd fence. That kid being Rory McIlroy.

You gotta take a grain of salt with any distances you get out of driving ranges. But then I find I can't get anywhere near the distances I get on the course when hit balls at an actual driving range (range balls, mats etc).

Instead of using google maps, I'd get a laser. Or at least a GPS if you really wanna find out how far those balls are going.

I don't know about that (will show up when it's done converting).

In cyberspace, nobody can hear you scream clock your club head speed.

Pfffft

Standard Google Maps shows yardages, if you enable them. Select the cog icon in top right corner. Then select Maps Labs, and from there Distance Measurement Tool.

I wish my range was more like that. Our has limited flight balls, but accurate yardage markers (flags - laser confirmed). By the time I leave I feel weak and useless.

don't doubt that you can do it.....but doing it in flip flops is incredible.  I can knock it out there (but can't average it) but I have to really use a bunch of turf interaction with my cleats.  impressive

sorry best i could do! figures to 305 guessing my best on where I was standing and where it hit the trees. If it's within 5 yards it's roughly 300.

Here is the video, i dont see the big deal with flip flops haha! The feet don't move a ton, I think they help with balance!

The swing is quite long, a lot of wrist hinge, and a fast looking turn through the ball. I don't doubt he hits it out there quite far. However, why anyone gets their knickers in a twist over how far anyone else does or doesn't hit the ball is beyond me. Is it really such a big deal?

Clearly the key is long, smooth, and slow, especially at impact.

    • How does that work, you fly side by side? I'm still getting the hang of keeping the plane steady. You have to be really gentle with the controller sticks. I think I wore out the batteries stalling, making the controller rumble.
    • Welcome to the club    I recognize that I'm an objectively bad putter, too, and while I'm trying to fix that, it really shows is the discrepancy of my GIR vs birdies made stat. Then again, I think someone (I am going from memory here) had some data that among better amateurs (I am not in the category of "better amateurs" by any stretch), there was an inverse correlation between birdies made and score.  I would take comfort in that if I didn't have a 9 GIR / 0 birdies / scored 90 round in recent memory.
    • I had 9 GIR's today... that's right 9!  I didn't make a single birdie. 🤮
    • Golf league question.  Par 4, closest to the pin on the second shot proxy.  We usually have 2 proxy's each week.  This one was closest to the pin second shot on a short par 4 (approx. 320yds.).  We had a hole in one!  Does this person win the proxy with a hole in one?  Clearly he didn't need a second shot.  The debate has started.  What's the rule?  What's the proper thing to do?
    • Day 113 (7/28/21) - Did some putting on the rug today, focused on the target when I made my stroke. Putts were only 3-4 feet, but I can see enough benefit, at least on short ones, to give it a try on the course.
