Video?

No, didn't have my camera. Pretty sure I just was freezing up my lower body and not getting my hips forward enough. Hit a lot of thin ones too so I'm pretty sure that was the problem. File and forget unless it happens again next session.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Another horrible session. :-( Much better than the last one but that ain't sayin' much. Just not getting enough weight forward which is messing up my path and low point control. Real ugly stuff, fat chunkers were the most common miss today. Very few slices, but hey, even one slice is one too many, really thought that miss was behind me. I did hit some nice ones too but they were the exceptions sadly.

I just filmed a random crap ass swing for posterior's sake, and no, that's not a typo, I feel like an ass. :8)

Hit some half-way decent pitches to about 50 yards just to clear my mind a bit, they weren't great either but it beats chunking 6 irons 100 yards.

I feel like I've taken a massive step backwards and have lost all feel for my swing. Course opens Saturday, so that'll be an adventure! Good thing I'm used to playing with a crappy swing, at least I'll have my expectations under control. :-P

Still working with my priority piece but obviously not correctly as I had no problem performing it AND getting my weight forward in Erie.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Thanks. For the record, I was hitting the ball GREAT last week, albeit with some pushes but great contact and way more height than I'm used too, very pro looking trajectory. Really want to get back to that.

I'm not going to get down on myself though because it was really going well up until this rut.

Rrrr, sorry to hear that. Not qualified to give advice, but it looks like your arms aren't extending post P7? But don't listen to me! Wait for @iacas 's advice. I'm working things out myself. Hang in there! We can commiserate together, ha ha.

Yeah, I know enough about the golf swing to pick out a whole bunch of stuff that's wrong but that wouldn't be very stupid monkey of me :-P and I'd probably pick the wrong thing to address anyway. I'll wait for the silver bullet. This damn game is awfully hard but I've been at it long enough to know that improvement ain't always a linear journey and set-backs happen to us all.

Thanks for the encouragement.

@Ernest Jones , before I post the video, what do you think is the thing that's preventing you from doing what you're trying to do?

@Ernest Jones, before I post the video, what do you think is the thing that's preventing you from doing what you're trying to do?

Well, I'm no expert but I feel like it's an issue with my weight shift. I think I'm stalling out at some point which is causing the low point issues, the lack of extension post impact, t-rex arms and crappy path. I think my lower body is too rigid as well.

I also have a hard time working on my piece at slower speeds because it is, in essence, a "speed" piece...

Q: what do you think is the thing that's preventing you from doing what you're trying to do?

Nah.

How about…

In other words, you're closer to having this back to where it was last week than you likely think. I would expect you can clean this up relatively quickly. Your "left shoulder forward and up" move has to happen on the downswing, early… not during your backswing. :)

Finally got to hit the course this morning!

Didn't keep score as I didn't have a scorecard and the maintenance guys were everywhere so I had to skip holes and jump around. Only had time for 8 holes. Played a little worse than bogey golf which is pretty good for a first time out this season.

I've fixed that weird backswing issue I had developed and when I executed the left shoulder move well I was hitting excellent shots. Nice, high irons that plopped down nice and soft. Hit about 3 pushes that were penal plus one weird slice and a pull. The rest were pretty playable and not all that punishing.

Looking forward to this season, gonna keep working that priority piece till I can't get it wrong!

Whole heartedly agree. I can honestly say I've reached a point where score is secondary to just enjoying being out there!

Every time I go out now it is pretty much with the friend that I introduced to golf, so it is always a competition both match play and stroke play.. when ever one of us loses we talk about how it is great to just be out there :)

Although the truth be told, all of us here are lucky that we play golf imho

    • Day 133 - Played 9 again. Driver was great, putting was better, but shots inside 100 were awful.
    • Day 36: 15 balls, same as last few days. Then a little indoor putting.
    • hey guys, sorry about the kind of short notice, but i'm not going to be able to make it to the outing this year....
    • Had to correct the distance - should have read 5,400 not 5,500  yds.
    • Had to report this one - played Minnesott again today with my son.  We played behind the Friday Men's group and had a decently paced round.  My round started off par-par-bogie.  I was feeling good to be +1 through three.  Played the next two par - par and then disaster hits - well I thought it may be the unravelling of +1 through five.  Tee shot on six is a hard pull hook into the ditch separating four and six.  I know the ball is lost and re-tee - hitting three off the tee on this par five.  Long story short - what should have been at worst a bogie became a triple 8.  Now I'm +4 through six holes.  Get a solid par on seven (which I celebrated as a solid recovery hole).  Eight is a birdie and I'm back to three over.  Nine, a par 3 over water, finishes par for a 39 front.   We roll to the back to where I birdie ten (the toughest hole on the back) to be -1 after the first hole on the back, +2 for the round.  Par eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen - that was an in the zone moment.  Have to note that fourteen - the second par 3 on the back - I hit the tee shot just short right of the flag.  Easy pitch with the 56 should put me close for a tap in par.  It does not happen - as I duff the pitch to about 3yds closer.  I reset and this time I nip it nicely only to see it land and slowly roll to the cup and drop in for a chip-in par save ( a first).   We get to sixteen and I am thinking this could be a really good round.  It's also a par 5 and I hit a solid tee shot.  I'm about 220 from the center of the green and figure I can layup with the 3w as there is a nice landing area in front of the green and it would play nicely into the typical distance I hit this club.  I'm sitting about 50 yds from the flag to the right hand side.  I overcook the 56 and see the ball bounce off the back of the turtle green.  I hit an easy 56 again to see the ball roll to the other side of the green.  Long story it became a 3putt double.  Now I am +4 through sixteen.  The last two holes are solid pars - one an up and down, the other a GIR two putt. Finished the back 1 over at 37.  Total score is a 76!  A new personal best.  Best "all around" play through the bag to date.
