Ever dream of one day giving up your day job and trying to make it on the Champions Tour?  Keith Gockenbach did and actually took the leap.  Keith chronicled his journey in his book: "Inside, Outside and On the Ropes: Life Lessons from Q-School & The Majors" .  This is not a behind the scenes retrospective but more like an "inside the ropes... between the ears" narrative of what it's like to be "out there" on all different levels: from competitive shot-by-shot descriptions of the U.S. Senior Open to handling the pressure of scoreboard watching at Q-School.

We're giving away 3 copies to The Sand Trap Community through this contest!

To Enter:

Write a short golf story in 6 words and post it in this thread.  Hemingway once wrote a story in just six words ("For sale: baby shoes, never worn.") and is said to have called it his best work. So we're asking The Sand Trap Community to take a shot themselves.

  • Myself and Erik (iacas), will judge the entries and choose the winners.  Winners will be judged on the creativity, and originality   of their short story.
  • The contest closes at noon eastern time on Monday Dec 5th, 2011.
  • Winners will be contacted via PM shortly after the contest closes and contacted about shipping information.

Prizes:
The 3 Best stories will receive a Free copy of Keith Gockenbach's "Inside, Outside and On the Ropes", which includes shipping to U.S. residents.

Forward by Fred Funk:
" Keith Gockenbach grew up playing golf in Robinson, IL and caddying for Bob Goalby and other pros in the PGA Tour’s Robinson Open. He was the top Chemical Engineering graduate in Clemson’s class of 1977 before joining Eastman Chemical Company. After a successful career in the chemical industry, including a Sloan Fellowship to MIT, where he obtained his MBA with a focus on leadership (Thesis: “Taking Charge as a General Manager, An Action Plan for Success), he 'retired' in 2004 to chase his dream. "

I don't want to be entered into the contest but I just wanted to share one of my thoughts on the golf course!
