All these national championships Alabama won this year seem to be rubbing off on the alums in the field.  Bohn @ Even and Thompson leading @ -4.

Someone making it to the PGA tour without any professional instructions  = a lot of natural talent imo.  I think he said his Dad helped him with his grip, but that was about it.  And I didn't say he was stupid. But I do think he is lacking in common sense. Augusta is known as a course you can bomb and get away with it if you have a good short game. Not so much on U.S. Open style courses.

Definitely.

Anybody who thinks that everybody who achieves high levels of success can't be stupid is being naive.  Especially when it comes to sports.  It's not unreasonable at all to suggest Bubba isn't smart.

Back to golf, I think hitting the 4th (?) fairway has to be one of the toughest feats on the course.

4th fairway, you mean the one that's slanted at about 45*, and running about 9 on the stimpmeter? Ya that would be kinda hard for me, piece of cake for the pros.

I bet you the USGA right now is crapping their pants, because of the -4 Thompson shot. How in the heck did he do that...

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha 10.5*

Irons:  Callaway Apex 4-PW Project X 5.5 shafts

Wedges: Callaway MackDaddy 2  52/58

I've only watched two groups, admittedly, but none of them have stayed in the fairway so far.  It seems like a good play to just get it in the intermediate rough.

Either that, or he never saw Mike Tyson before he faded into Bolivia.

Tyson had smart handlers/coaches/ttrainers. Without the team that got him into boxing, he couldn't function. That was clear when Don King got his hands on him. Cus D'Amato and Kevin Rooney MADE Tyson. He couldn't do it on his own. Bubba has.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

How do you know Tyson wasn't expressing that he was literally going to Bolivia when he retired?  Huh?  Huh???

Wonder if it has anything with San Francisco being near Silicon Valley, but the USOpen.com live video looks totally Instagram'ed. They're using one of those throwback old style filters.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Well this is interesting.  Rory had to mark his ball so Westwood can play his second shot without hitting it.  Seems when its Rorys turn theres going to be a nice big divot right where his ball needs to go ...

Anyone think Berman should not be doing the broadcast. His voice is fine for football, but not golf.

Nike Dymo 3 wood

TaylorMade Burner 3 hybrid

Mizuno MP-53 PW-3

He is good, but it's his raspy voice. Don't get me wrong, I like him.

Can we get guys at our public courses to wander the rough on every hole and stick little red flags next to our balls so we don't have to search for them?

I don't like anything about ESPN anymore.

    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
