Are typo s allowed in this thread?

Unfortunately this is the typo of answer that's common in these kinds of discussions.

Former English teacher puzzle for you...

-John where James had had had had had had had-

Make the preceding string of words a correct English sentence using punctuation.

You're missing part of it....

James, where John had had "had", had had "had had"; "had had" had had a better effect on the teacher.

I always get a little annoyed when a sentence paints me into a corner where I have no choice but to write "that that" or "had had", sometimes I reformulate the sentence, other times I'll drop one of the "thats" because most people don't even notice and sometimes I say, "**** it" and leave it as is.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Wow, they never gave me the second part. Now I can baffle my nieces even more. Thanks!

Maybe I'll even write "affect" and ask them to find the spelling mistake :smartass:

Reminds me of this sentence: Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.

I put @mmoan2 's into my personal google machine and came up with Wikipedia, which explains it oh so clearly:

"James while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher" is an English sentence used to demonstrate lexical ambiguity and the necessity of punctuation,[1] which serves as a substitute for the intonation,[2] stress, and pauses found in speech.

........

The sentence can be understood more clearly by adding punctuation and emphasis:

James, while John had had "had", had had "had had"; "had had" had had a better effect on the teacher.[5]

See, with punctuation it makes complete sense!

A new thread just got started called "Driver Dilemna ..." and it made me chuckle.  I believe I also saw @Ernest Jones write dilemna once very recently too.  It makes me chuckle because I had a (really smart) friend who used to spell it that way and we made fun of him to no end.

In fact, the group of us starting pronouncing the word with a hard "n" and it's almost second nature to me to this day.

Be careful.  That's how dictionary entries end up getting changed.

Ha! I found one of these that had been sliced out of bounce....

A high school golf coach once wrote "out of bounce" on the local rules sheet.

    • Day 129: 5/4/24 Stack training but could not certify my warmup speed. Dealing with a pulled neck muscle. Chips and pitches at a local course for about 15 minutes.
    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
