I hope for a real president who can one day stand up there and say "You know, this is what is f'd up and here is how I'm going to try to fix it. We might fail, but we're going to try this " and be very specific about what they're doing. The only problem with this is that I would be hoping that 350,000,000+ Americans educate themselves on what is going on in the world and actually care about who is making decisions on their behalf. Right now it is the opposite and the government coasts by on the mentality that we need them to think for us - which is sadly true.

Makes me think less of Jack. Not because he endorsed Romney which is fine but because he trotted out shallow rhetoric typically used by those who don't think deeply about such things. We are not living in the 1970's any more. We live with a world economy now and do not dominate the world with our power.

Not really. Most polls had Reagan winning. There will always be bad polls (the pollsters asked the questions wrong or they had sampling errors) so you will be able to find one to match your reality.

Imagine only having 1 debate the week before the election. Times sure have changed.

The October 27 polls on the eve of the election gave carter a double digit lead over Reagan..............

Just sayin'...

Does it really matter who is in the office? All the a hole politicians are out for themselves. Anyone who pigeon holes themselves as a republican or democrat, is doing a disservice. It's a failing system.

Romney has to win Ohio or he's screwed. No Republican has ever won the election without winning Ohio. So he trots out the state's favorite son.

It's a good strategy for a desperate campaign, and before someone tries to challenge my use of the word 'desperate', Romney's down 10 points in Ohio & the election is five weeks away. It's time to do anything, and bringing out Jack qualifies as anything.

Absolutely.  Jack explains how HE did not lean on somebody else in tough times while competing.  Romney is in a competition right now, and based on the polls I'd say that he is in tough times.  What Jack brags about not doing in his day is EXACTLY what Romney IS doing today. Get it now?

yeah. Maybe a bit of a stretch, but I get it now. Anywho, it seems like republicans haven't put out a real good candidate in a long time, it's kind of their own fault when they don't win. Like they just keep shooting themselves in the foot.

I wonder what would have happened to the economy if Al Gore, certified ManBearPig specialist would have won instead of the Smartest kid with Down Syndrome, George Bush.

You should just come to California then.  Since it's all about electoral votes still, and most states are winner take all and California is always going to vote blue, nobody bothers out here.  I heard somewhere that both candidates are spending an enormous percentage (don't remember the number, could've been 50%, could've been 90%) of their campaign funding in just the 3 (or 4) swing states out there.

Lucky for you, you are in one of them.

And the POTUS and Congress have little to do with this. It really doesn't matter that much who wins in November regarding how fast the economy improves. The market will control the recovery.

Ah, that old simplistic Chestnut. You don't believe the market forces are influenced by the rules and regulations that come out of Washington?  And what the hell does the market have to due with the national debt that keeps climbing ever higher? You don't think balanced budget days of Clinton and the Gingrich led Congress went a long way in establishing those salad days?

You are getting a lot more political than I care to in this thread. I will say that yes there is some influence of markets by government regulation but I was taught that supply and demand controls market forces and that's what I believe.

i read something this morning that said the most "likeable" candidate wins 70+% of the time. that's all we're picking, a smiling face in a suit. doesn't matter what "party affiliation" they have, the government continues to expand it's power and take things out of our control to "help" us.

i would have liked to see what a guy like ron paul would have done with the presidency. i think he's one of the only people that actually believed in what he was selling as opposed to towing the party line and going along with what other people tell him.

I don't think Paul would make any difference. Laws have to be passed by Congress to become law and most of his ideas would never make it through the legislature.

Both supply and demand are manipulated by the government.   Ignoring regulation and tax policy, government spending and hiring are huge influences. What is the major difference between Bush's and Obama's unemployment rates? It isn't private sector jobs. It is that Obama has been around during a huge reduction in government jobs (mainly at the state level) while Bush was around when the government was growing rapidly (combo of feds and state level). The reduction in state workers was probably needed. It would have been more convienant though for it to happen in 2005 or 2014 though when the economy was more able to handle it.

I wonder how many of Jack's golf courses have benefited from public funding? I wouldn't imagine many but you never know what type of deals towns make to attract businesses.

    • Hi everyone, I'm looking to improve my driving distance. I’ve been playing golf for a few years now, and while my accuracy has gotten better, I’m still struggling to get the distance I want off the tee. I play regularly with both men and women, so any advice that applies to both would be fantastic. For some context, I’ve tried adjusting my stance and swing, but I feel like I might be missing some key golf techniques or drills. Has anyone here successfully increased their driving distance? What specific tips or changes worked for you? Whether it's about grip, posture, swing mechanics, or even mental approach, I’m open to all suggestions! Looking forward to hearing your experiences and advice! Thanks!
    • Day 159: 6/3/24 Stack Training Full Speed Spectrum session 20/24. Diagnosed with tennis elbow today. Finished 1 mph higher than last session.
    • I don't know… The TaylorMade Tiger Woods grinds were decent. I like narrow soles with a lot of bounce (lots of camber) and good heel/toe relief.
    • Day 33 (3 Jun 24) - In between working on my bass guitar and its wiring issues, I was able to take the putter and roll some putts on the carpet in the shop.  Spent time with the lead arm as I usually putt with it tucked close  and then doing the lead arm chicken wing.  Interesting how the feel and pace is different.  Had seen a fellow golfer using it last week when we were playing.  Overall it was good to do an easy day of putting for pace and overall distance control from 10' in.
    • Gotcha. Good to know. I'll have to test them.Any other specific models/grinds from major OEMs (not Edel) that you like and/or have a good blend of narrow sole but enough bounce? I said Non Edel just so I'd be able to test in person/have a variety of buying options
