Has anyone received this unsolicited dvd from the PGA? I'm a little annoyed they send this and if you do nothing the send more and bill you for the "instructional" dvds. Maybe I made a mistake by joining USGA and they sold my info to a marketing outfit. Perhaps one of the online stores sold my info

No.  But you should read the fine print for joining USGA.

If it is indeed that they sent it to you without your consent (again you must read the fine prints), you are under no legal obligation to pay or return the item.

I haven't gotten any such thing and I've been a USGA member for quite some time.

I got one of those last year (or the year before), and I definitely don't remember asking for it. I don't think I've ever had any interaction with the PGA at all, in fact, other than sending the DVD as well as a letter of displeasure (that I'm sure when unread) back to them.

Mine was PGA. I read the OP's as being from the PGA too, but he was wondering if maybe the USGA gave the PGA his info?

Reading a little more on the USGA's membership terms, thanks Ukari, its seems as though its possible they sold info to PGA for this marketing scam. OF course it also could have been an online golf store i bought from also. Not sure, regardless any marketing ploy of this type is unwelcome and I will be opting out of the USGA's info sharing, and any others I can think of.

Just to clear things up this was sent by "PGA" not PGA Tour or USGA

I got one last year like JAMO.  Not really worth watching.  Just send it back or they will hound you with e-mails.

I've been a USGA member for 26 years, and they don't do anything like what you are accusing them of unless you have given them permission to do so.  The only things you get from them are what they inform you of up front.  The only golf spam I've ever gotten has come from places like TGW.  I don't even remember what I bought from them, but I got endless advertising emails from them until I cancelled my Comcast account when we moved here.  I think you've gotten on the list from some other source.

I DID include the possibility that it came from another source. However, reading the fine print of membership terms with USGA, it is not a matter of "giving them permission" to  sell data , that seems to be automatic, but rather "telling them NOT TO" . To be clear I am NOT pissed at USGA

I got one, too, several months ago.  I’m not sure what mailing list was used to send it to me.  The address label used a military rank I used to have, but which I haven’t held for several years. So they didn’t get it from my USGA membership data, Golf Galaxy, Golf Digest, or Medicus.

Off topic, but related to the quality of the DVD instructional content:

On the DVD, they show Brandel Chamblee on a launch monitor hitting shots with commentary by the PGA Director of Instruction, Rick Martino.  In deliberately hitting a slice, Chamblee has an out-to-in swingpath 1.0* relative to the target line, and open clubface 10.6* (to target line or swingpath?).  Martino says, “The path is slightly across, starting the ball a little left. The face is wide open, overriding the path and sending the ball way to the right.” The monitor clearly shows the ball starting right and staying right.

They then show a “hook” with swingpath 4.0*in-to-out and face angle 0.7*closed (relative to target line?).  Martino says, it “started out to the right and curved back to the target.” But the monitor shows it started left and stayed left. (The shot ended up 8.6 yards left of center. Chamblee describes this as a “big hook.” Looks more like a pull-draw to me.  Is 8.6 yards enough to call it a big hook?)

Chamblee goes on to talk about how the numbers on the monitor don’t lie.  But they’ve just finished ignoring what the monitor really showed.

I got one to, watched it once and forgot all about it, Received a few bills/ offers to send more but they petered off. Just thinking we went to the Connecticut Golf show last February, wrote our names and addresses on a few "chances to win" offers etc. Who knows where that info ended up... Didn't win anything I guess.

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

LOL. When I read the thread title I picture a DVD of random people walking up to other random people on range and saying things like, "you lifted your head", "don't straighten your trail leg, you'll lose power", "your back needs to be straighter, you're too slumped", and other unsolicited advice....now I see that it's not a DVD of unsolicited instruction but an unsolicited DVD of instruction. I need reading lessons! Oh, well, gave me a chuckle anyway.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
