Absolutley no chance, will everyone who had a slower round than him get a penalty?

I don't think so . .this article just posted:

"Per the PGA Tour, it's the first slow-play penalty assessed since Glen Day was hit in 1995 ... three years before Guan was even born ."

With all the slow-pokes on tour week in and week out - how on Earth can they justify dusting off the one stroke penalty in this situation?

I am not against the one stroke penalty at all . .in fact, I think they should use it every week .. but this doesn't seem fair.

The official that called him is John Paramour from the European Tour, there have been a couple of slow play penalties assessed in Europe already this year, I wonder whether the different officials discussed how strictly they are apply the time rules at this tournament.

It's still talking about the Masters. ESPN was just talking about it being the first in a major since 2004.

I think that because its a hot topic at the moment didn't help. But lets not be silly and think that he got it because he was from China and not a local kid.

To derail from Guan for a moment: WHAT. A. PUTT. by Tiger Woods. With the field all seemingly coming back to him, if he can keep this going (-2 currently), have to think he's in prime position.

Still not convinced . . I can find numerous quotes stating that the last player to be penalized this way was Glen Day in 1995 at The Honda Classic  - and I can't find any quotes about slow play penalty strokes more recent.

Here is a Glen Day article:

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/golf/pga/story/2012-05-17/slow-play-glen-day-the-last-to-be-penalized-a-stroke/55043728/1

If anybody knows for sure when the last penalty stroke for slow play on the pga tour was - please post it here.

I think the penalty is a great message. Speed of play is the most important issue in the game of golf. Frankly I believe that speed of play is more important to the game than professional golf is. I love Nicklaus and like Tiger as players but I will never forgive them for making the average amateur think that playing that slow is normal or okay.

It seems to be a rare occurence and I can't believe they rolled it out on the kid. Looks bad given the usual slowpokes on the tour haven't been penalized recently.

Dave :-)
