Great info Erik, thanks!

It's shocking to me that a world class (I don't know them, just know that they have PGA tour students) instructor would see that a tour player can vary 10-12% swing to swing and that sounds right to them.

Also that they wouldn't question the data that shows a guy in his finish up over his left foot with his right foot on his toe and think that 50-50 weight makes sense.  I'm glad I never bought those DVD's.

As the kids these days say OMG some people are going to need a change of undergarments.

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

Great analysis, Erik!  As one who early on questioned the "weight forward all the time" aspect of S&T;, it's good to see it for what it is. This should help convince whatever S&T; bandwagon riders are left here to finally jump off!

Oh,my!

Grant Waite has a beautiful swing.

Excellent work, Erik.

Now I won't try to over-exagerate the weight forward on the backswing. I can "feel" weight forward because I am wary of getting it too far back. But knowing it is natural to have pressure on the back leg at the top is comforting so as not to force a move that is not natural.

Thanks for posting Erik, well researched.  Like everything we do on this site, from equipment reviews, to analyzing swings, to sharing good information, it's all done to help people learn and make informed decisions.  When people are trying to learn, expand their understanding, nothing should be off limits from in-depth examination.  This is how it works in the sciences.  This post is a serious exploration of the numbers of weight/pressure and how they stack up with what really happens.  I'm sure this thread will anger some people but this is just a peer review with the goal of furthering knowledge. We can all learn from one another and the day we stop learning...it's time to call it quits.

I'd like to thank Dave Wedzik, with whom I've talked most about this and who has done almost as much in researching this as I have, as well as Mike McLoughlin and James Hirshfield.

I'm a reading nut and I absolutely loved this info well done to all. I'm not an expert but would you consider this info to show that right sided centered pivot the most efficient way to swing the club? In my own investigation into SnT it seems that it's a left sided swing putting the spine in an unatural position at the top because of the emphasis on staying left. To my my mind it feels perfectly natural to stay central in the swing but it doesn't feel right to force myself to stay left for the entire swing. I actually tried a few swings in the SnT method, and my head did go down and forward. Obviously no one there to coach me but it felt physically hard to do. I know you guys would not teach a one plane swing as Ritter,Zander,LaBauve, or Hardy would but the nuts and bolts of this data reaffirm my own swing for me. If I diligently practice I only expect to get better. Thankyou as good as anything I have read on golf.

Great post Erik.  This is the part of SnT that I always had trouble with. It felt as if I was falling forward if I tried to get my weight forward at A4.  My swing was also pretty steep, with deep divots and it made the driver AoA too steep.  The ball came out low with all clubs.

At some point last year Mike had me focus more on weight forward at impact and staying centered during the backswing.  This felt much more natural to me.  The low point moved forward, the swing became less steep and I got more consistent contact.  Perhaps I was missing the point or ove-rexaggerating the SnT lesson.  But I have improved more with the 5SK approach.

Thank you, Brakkus.

We put this information together because, at the end of the day, it's about making golfers better . By understanding what good golfers actually do, and getting good, accurate information, both instructors and players can get better, faster.

The greatest instructors pair awesome information with a great personality and communication. This is but one side of that equation.

    • I visited the PGA Superstore again today. Once again I messed around with the LAB putters. There was another customer there and this guy was totally sold on them. He walked away with one. Anyhow, this guy told me all about them. ... Pretty much stuff that we've already covered in this thread. I did mention to him that I wasn't impressed with the feel. To which he told me you have to try one with the upgraded shaft. So, I did. I have to say the feel was better with the upgraded shaft. Still not the best feeling putter out there, but clearly better than the standard shaft. The feel is also improved (in my opinion) by going with a more traditional grip instead of the forward leaning one. They also had one of the DF3's in blue. Which of course would be my favorite. The DF3 in blue with the upgraded shaft started to scratch the 600 dollar mark.  Once again, I came away thinking that Tour Edge is the way to go. They actually had a face balanced model for $99.99. I have to say it "felt" to my hands much better. Every time I go and test LAB putters I come away thinking more people should buy the Tour Edge putters. Just one man's opinion. BTW - I also tried the Odyssey face-balanced putter. It was okay.  Anyway, my experimenting with the LAB putters is probably over. Not sure when I'll replace my current gamer, but when I do, I don't think it will be with a LAB putter even though it does come in blue. 😜
    • Day 80 - 2024-12-19 Tested out the Garmin R50 for a little while. It seemed to give pretty good numbers.
    • Day 10: 12/19/2024 Had another range session today bringing my new PPJ swing thought to the range. I'm hitting more and more good ones. Right now it's all block training so I get in some streaks where I'm getting the timing right and have several really good shots in a row. I realize I'll need to eventually work in some random training, but I'm not ready for that yet.  As of now, practice is a lot of fun, because I can see results and I feel like I'm making progress.  There will probably be very few range sessions over the next week or so. I plan to do a lot of mirror work and hit balls in the garage net.  Once again, I also visited the PGA super store and putted around with several putters. ... just for kicks.
    • Yeah, that's what I am suggesting OP check. If he does not have a grip issue then great. It's not unheard of grip issues causing duck hooks. Anyway I don't have a horse in the race. Good luck to the OP.
    • I too fought the dastardly low duck hook something awful this year - as you say it is a round killer, absolutely demoralizing.  I've golfed seriously for 14 years and this just crept in this year - CONSISTENTLY, never ever had to deal with it before.   Like you, it only affects my driver, not hybrids/irons.   So I fought it all year and spent alot of time trying everything under the sun to fix it.   At end of season, after an incredible amount of work, I did fix it.   It turned out to be a simple fix - it is a grip issue (for me).    I always set up with my driver with club head lag like the rest of my clubs.   My fix was to set up straight to the ball - NO LAG (no shaft lean).   What this does is slightly rotate the grip in your hands ... automatically, You won't have to intentionally change anything with your grip.   It will feel really weird, but lock in the grip with no shaft lean / clubhead lag & swing normally.   Its pure f'n magic - completely fixed my low short duck hook without any other change in setup or swing, ball position, ball height, etc.  Back to hitting nice high straight balls, even a tad of fade sometimes, which i'm fine with.   Grip still feels really strange & I have to ingrain it in my muscle memory over the winter indoors, but can't argue with the cnosistent results the last 7 or 8 rounds of the season.... absolutely mind blowing what a simple little change can do.
