Whats the one shot that you hate most when you blow it ...

Recommended Posts

... to me, I'd rather top a drive than to shank a greenside chip.      I practice chipping more than any other shot (only because the backyard is available) & am usually pretty solid, but more often than I like to admit, I dead shank a chip & it goes at an exact right angle to the line its supposed to ... NOTHING GRINDS MY GEARS MORE THAN THAT - UGH !!!!

You ?

Same, nothin worse than a mishit on a chip unless its a 1 foot putt miss.

Nothing more frustrating to me than screwing up an easy chip.  Wasted opportunities!

To hit a tee shot OB, or somewhere that I can't find it and hit it again. I figure I'm never out of a hole as long as I can hit it again.

Ditto! This is by far the most frustrating thing to me when golfing, followed by missing a short putt.

It has to be a tie between duffing a chip shot and hitting a 20-30 yard pitch shot fat...both eat me up inside!

Yup, this one.  When I chunk a chip it only costs me 1 shot, but when I hit a drive into "bolivian" ;) it costs 2.  (Actually more like 2.5 because I'm usually scared or angry and lacking a little concentration on the provisional and hit it less than stellarly as well.)

I agree on the fat shot. the 20-40 yard pitch shot that ends up 10-5 yards short of the green makes me mad. mostly because i know why i did it and how to not do it, but some how it still happens. leaving a ball in the sand can be really frustrating too.

Roughly 60 yards out.. 52* wedge in my hand..

Game plan: 75% swing, pinch the ball tight, land it slightly long with backspin.. (in practice i feel like i can do this 95/100 times)..

However, on the course the % is never that high!.. I either:  a) skull it 15 yards long  or   b) hit behind the ball causing a chunk

I think it's all in my head at this point!

Today actually

3 times piped a beautiful drive right down the middle, every time made double with no more than a 9 iron in my hand most frustrating thing ever

Being 10' off the green  with 20' left to the pin (thinking make it or having a tap-in left) and end up blading it across the green or peeking & advancing the ball a couple of feet or less.

It's not very often, but once in a blue moon I'll get lazy and lay the hosel into a short iron.   That'll get into your head for the rest of the round too.   Ugh......!

Piss Poor chip shot, i hate it, drives me up the wall, my number 1 destroyer of a good round. I can be 10 yards from the green and waste 6 shots, its absurd.

I'll be the oddball here.  I hate it when I crush a drive right down the middle on a reachable par 5 and it leaves me 3 wood out and I try to crush it so bad I either top it 50 yrds or pull it into crap.

Absolutely! Played last weekend and was 4 over after 7 when the wedge just totally disappeared. Hit 11 fairways, nice fairway woods and irons but fought that damn wedge all day and ended up with a 97. :(

    • I mostly play a low to mid-compression ball like Callawaay ChromeSoft or Hex Soft. Got 6 ProVI's in a tournament and finally played them on a trip to Couth Carolina last month. Very impressive...Long enough and stopped on a dime on the greens. I never gave ProVI's much thought due to price and my tendency to lose balls. So I ordered 24 "refinished mint AAAAA" ProVI's off eBay for $40 total. Haven't hit them yet, but they do look brand new.  -Marv
    • It's all mental. If you are out there starting out and can't handle mishits take up bowling.
    • Well I received my GX 7 a couple of weeks ago and well the first time i used it it was just like the video! It wend dead straight and just as far as I hit my Driver. Since then I have been using it and I love it. I played in a 9 hole twilight comp last night and hit 100% of the fairways. Walk away with 21 stableford point with one wipe! My golf scores have already dropped and feeling a lot more confident. You just have to control yourself and not try and belt the hell out of it. So I can seriously say this is awesome.
    • @Kevinwelland and @Hiway1tele - nothing wrong from walking away from this game. It's ridiculously difficult. I've been at it for several years now and have recently come to the conclusion that any real improvement is outside my ability and means. Once that mindset kicks in, the game becomes more enjoyable and less frustrating (for me). Today, it took about 4 or 5 holes  to get past the unrealistic expectations I often experience. The bad shots became just part of the round I endure while waiting to hit the few good ones. It ceased becoming a life or death situation and I was glad I played. In a way, I envy your ability to walk away. I think about how much of the last 6 years of my life I've wasted working towards goals. All that time, I could have just enjoyed the game for what it is, or found a better hobby. Of course, I wouldn't have known my limits had I not put 100% in as I did. In the end, it's about whether or not we can enjoy "bad" golf. There are worse players than us out there having fun - just as there have been much, much better players who've quit.
    • In most of golf,  the distance max for a club is irrelevant.  It's about dispersion and repeatability. I dunno about the Internet crowd but for me I want drop and stop shooting at greens.  A 15 cap here says he can choose between sucking it back or drop and stop on gw? Sorry gotta call Bravo Sierra on that nonsense.
