I thought the other way too until I saw it direct from the USGA.  It's simply an anti-sandbagging measure.  It's also thought that such a case shouldn't occur often enough to be a major factor in your handicap.

Got it.  I learned something today.  I'd have to agree with the last thought as well.  I hate I didn't know the rule, but I have almost never invoked the rule I thought it was.  I usually play out / finish the round etc.

Nice congrats!

I continue to go from 4.0 to 3.9 to 4.0 to 3.9.  See everybody next time when I am back up to 4.

Just went from 9.4 to 9. Course handicap hasn't changed (11), but I plan for that to go down as well in the next cycle.

It sounds as if everybody took advantage of some of what I gave back this cycle to move forward themselves......

Down a considerable amount thanks to a couple low 80 rounds.  I think I'll only be able to get out to the links 2 or 3 times for the rest of the month so it shouldn't change much next month which is fine by me!  I'm playing a couple high end courses in South Dakota at the beginning of next month so if I can play decent my handicap should continue it's downward trend.  Only took the majority of summer to find my game again but better late then never!

Did you ever break 10?  I was ever so close at 10.2!

10.9 is my lowest to date. I started keeping an official handicap about 11 months ago. I have 3 differentials under 10.0 in my last 20. Hopefully I'll get my putter working and get it back down.

Starting a week from tomorrow, I'll be playing a lot of golf during 2 of the 3½ weeks I'll be in Colorado.  I'm going to hang on to my cards and calculate a new index from them, since it's been almost a year and a half since my last round.  By this time next month I should have some current data to work with.   I have a bad feeling that it's not going to be as low as I'd like.

If you end up with a layover in Orlando, give me a call and we'll play. I'll pick up and deliver you back to the airport! :-)

I'm flying through Charlotte on US Air, so that probably won't happen this trip.

Good luck, Fourputt.  ( Perhaps, you should change your user name to Oneputt to strat things on a right frame of mind. )

Just have fun Brother!  It is the REAL reason we play this crazy game!

The fun is guaranteed.  This is by far the longest layoff I've had since I became more or less hooked on the game in 1973.  One week from right now we'll be headed to whatever course my brother has made a tee time for (looking like Keystone Ranch at the moment - RTJ resort course in Summit County, CO).  I'm starting to count off the hours now.

Congrats, Drew. I myself just dropped to 8.8 - my all time lowest index. It's kind of surreal, since in March/April of this year, I was playing some of the worst golf of my adult life. My index had ballooned to a 14.1, and I had accuracy issues with my driver that I began to fear I would never fix.

But after our Talega outing, I began to focus closely on my tempo (thanks to Beachcomber's buddy for that tip) and things have really clicked for me since then. I keep fearing that the old habits are going to creep back into my swing, but so far so good. I may be playing slightly above my head, but I'll enjoy being a single digit handicapper while it lasts!
