The Pelican Brief (1993), wasn't as good as I had remembered it. I read the book first, too, so that probably didn't help much. The music was pretty hilarious, though.

I give it a par. Could have been a bogey because it was a bit slow, but… Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington aren't at their best but they're still pretty good.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Eagle. What a fantastic movie. The acting was terrific. The story was well thought out. The music, well, if you lived through that era, you know Queen.

Polar - An adaptation of Victor Santos' graphic novel "Polar: Came From the Cold", staring nobody you probably know. The world's top assassin, Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser, is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm (aka, doesn't want to pay him his retirement money). Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head-to-head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.  This is part Kill Bill, part John Wick ... but quirkier.  I really enjoyed it, but it may not be for everyone and did not score well with Rotten Tomatoes (a plus, in my book).  Also has an odd ending, as many Netflix movies seem to have.  Very very violent, with several fairly graphic sex scenes - would not recommend for children, but I give it a birdie.

I watched this recently as well.  I thought it was a great movie but I'm a fan of Mads Mikkelson anyway and I'll watch just about any action movie I stumble across.  Ultra-violent though for sure so this definitely might not be for everyone.

The Wandering Earth - par. The premise is kind of ridiculous, the movie a pastiche of tropes and blatant mimicking of 2001, Interstellar, Armageddon, Gravity, etc... and you can feel the hand of the government behind the script, but it sort of worked. Will watch it again on Netflix.

Star Wars - Regrets of The Past

My childhood friend and classmate in Austria made (directed, produced, animated, script etc) this official Star Wars fan film.

He is very talented and has a big heart; one can see it in the quality of his work.

It is free to watch (as all fan films are).

Please show him some love by watching and commenting.

Murder at 1600 - Bogey. Not Diane Lane's or Wesley Snipes' best performance. So many weird pieces that didn't fit at all, like his tiny apartment over-run with huge civil war battle scenes… what's the point of them?

The plot is pretty transparent too.

I just saw Captain Marvel.  I guess my expectations were too high.   The movie was good but worth waiting for the rental.   The most exciting part was the first ending trailer.   It had some good moments, some slow moments, some humor and the battle scenes were pretty good.   One thing it did do was answer some questions from the last Marvel movie, Avengers - Infinity War.   Just because I really like Marvel movies, I give it a lucky par.

I’m with you on this one, @dennyjones.  Visually, this movie is great.  If you didn’t know Sam Jackson was 20 years older you’d have to be convinced.   The de-aging CGI they used on him was fan-freaking-tastic. Some of the battle scenes were awesome as well, especially the final fight

Overall I thought this was a good movie, but nothing stellar from a story perspective.  I thought the opening twenty minutes were something from a DC movie: kind of all over the place.   Maybe there’s an extended cut that transitions some of the scenes better, because to me this movie had some weird pacing issues .

Brie Larson was good, too.   She’s got a lot of charm.   Since she may be one of the big guns in the Marvel Universe going forward, it’ll be nice to see how they flush out her character.

I’ll give this one a barely made par.  Solid enough, but not spectacular.

I'd give Captain Marvel a birdie. The chemistry between CM and Fury was great, oodles of screen presence, funny and irreverent. That sequence in the train and the back half of the movie. Also good performance by Ben Mendelsohn. A couple of other reasons. A certain character I had no idea about was awesomely funny and scary, a scene that involved scanning memories with a new spin, plus a very inspiring collage at the end about not giving up. Some of the song curation was a little too much on the nose and of course, there's not much one can do to veer from Marvel's formula, it follows it to a tee. Nice tribute to Stan Lee in the beginning, sniff.

I give Captain Marvel a par and only for the last half of the movie and mid credit scene. It was not bad at all. Not sure I can put my finger on why I only gave it a par. Saw it twice hoping to like it more. As a fan of all the Marvel movies it was a must see but fell a bit flat for me overall.

Crazy Rich Asians - Birdie. Very funny Romcom. What made it interesting for me is I’ve been to Singapore twice and recognized all the locations. Acting was good too.

I'll give Captain Marvel a tap in birdie. I enjoyed all the characters. For an intro movie to a super hero character it was really well done. I really thought Brie Larson did a great job as the lead actress. The pacing was good. I like the way Fury and CM played off each other with witty banter. It was just a very enjoyable movie.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
