Just received an email from my home course that they are opening THIS Friday.  "Book your Friday or Saturday tee time now" it read.

Weather forecast?  Rain and low-40s both days. Yeah, right.

My league starts there Thursday, April 3rd.  I'm sure it'll be cold enough to SNOW by the time we tee off two weeks from tomorrow!

Like everywhere else in the east and midwest, winter continues. 10-day forecast for NE Ohio looks like more of the same.  Nothing remotely CLOSE to golf weather!  Ugh.

I played today.  It was 43 degrees with a 20mph wind.   I have no idea what the wind chill was but nevertheless, I was golfing.........

Winter in New England continues with cold temperatures and now rain to add some fun.  Thought we'd have a nice(r) weekend coming up but then saw that it's going to rain again.  Beginning to wonder if we'll ever get out to the course again.  Hopefully I can at least get to the range and maybe even play some golf assuming any of the courses are open (they're not yet though, but I'm hopeful).

I think we got 12 inches... Edit: make that 14 inches. Add that to the 36 we already have... I can't see my grill anymore.

Oh come on, Dave! I'm playing tomorrow over at Ridge! The conditions will undoubtedly be horrible, but I'm bored with the range. Our current weather has nothing on some UA Cold Gear! Throw on a skull cap, grab a thermos of Folgers and swing away!

I'm looking outside right now.  I see snow on roof of house across the street.  All the bushes are blowing sideways.

The good news is that you'll be the only one there and most likely WON'T have to pay!!!  Keep in touch.  Want to see how the new sticks are working out for you.

Haha, it will probably be a mud pit. Ridgetop is traditionally a pretty nice public course as you know and I"m really surprised they're open already, let alone letting carts out... It's supposed to be 50+ and somewhat sunny so it may not be that bad. They did say it was $20, but that's only a few more bucks than the range that I go to (typically don't care about the cost, but considering the conditions, I would not pay more than $20 on a course where the snow literally melted last week with no maintenance afterwards).

So far everything is great with the new sticks. There's a huge ball flight change with the AP1s than I had with my forged Cobra set. I'm really happy so far and worked out the kinks hitting the range all winter. I'll be due for a case of the yanks by May though. Happens every year!

Right there with you, neighbor! Can't wait (may even try to sneak out this afternoon if I can). Saw that weather forecast for next week - not much would suck more than getting snow AGAIN. Thinking positive...:-D Have fun out there.

Even though it's snowing now, and there appears to be 2" on the ground, things are looking good for golf tomorrow if it doesn't rain. We played two weekends ago and it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't let myself watch golf on TV until I got one round in. lol.

The 8 inches we got monday melted very fast.  65* tomorrow and 48* on Sunday (my 30th birthday!).  Will play at least 2 rounds this weekend.  Its really very hard to contain my excitement.

But I can still commiserate--they're calling for more snow on Tuesday.

Great weather all week (excluding some 20-30 mph afternoon winds). But I had high priority ($$) project going and could not break free.

Snow expected through the weekend, warmer and drier next week.

Hope to get a few rounds in midweek next.

With winter projected to make a comeback next week ... couldn't take it any more - even though I'm sick & fighting off a cold with a fever (my wife pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm nuts) - took Friday off work, drove an hour and a half south & played Heron Glen.      MId 40's, windy as hell, but sunny.    Pretty brutal conditions - played well.     Pitched in from 50 ft & chipped in from 25 on the next hole (all my work over the winter in the living room paid off !!).      Driving pretty well, unfortunately a few really loose approach shots & shot 85, which is about where I left off last year ... so overall, was happy I toughed it out & played ... now I have all weekend to recover.

Still in Naples, so wish I could bring this weather back to No. VA. Hopefully the storm on Tuesday doesn't last very long. Have the golf bug after playing every day here in Naples. Teeing off at 12 at Grey Oaks CC the Estuary Coure.

How is this for a late March forecast? -3 right now, and it doesn't appear to be getting warmer anytime soon.

    • Day 470 - 2026-01-13 Got some work in while some players were using the sim, so I had to stick around. 🙂 Good thing too, since… I hadn't yet practiced today until about 6:45 tonight. 😛
    • That's not quite the same thing as what some people messaged me today.
    • Day 152 1-12 More reps bowing wrists in downswing. Still pausing at the top. Making sure to get to lead side and getting the ball to go left. Slow progress is better than no progress.
    • Yea, if I were to make a post arguing against the heat map concept, citing some recent robot testing would be my first point. The heat map concept is what I find interesting, more on that below. The robot testing I have looked at, including the one you linked, do discreet point testing then provide that discrete data in various forms. Which as you said is old as the hills, if you know of any other heat map concept type testing, I would be interested in links to that though! No, and I did say in my first post "if this heat map data is valid and reliable" meaning I have my reservations as well. Heck beyond reservations. I have some fairly strong suspicions there are flaws. But all I have are hunches and guesses, if anyone has data to share, I would be interested to see it.  My background is I quit golfing about 9 years ago and have been toying with the idea of returning. So far that has been limited to a dozen range sessions in late Summer through Fall when the range closed. Then primarily hitting foam balls indoors using a swing speed monitor as feedback. Between the range closing and the snow flying I did buy an R10 and hit a few balls into a backyard net. The heat map concept is a graphical representation of efficiency (smash factor) loss mapped onto the face of the club. As I understand it to make the representation agnostic to swing speed or other golfer specific swing characteristics. It is more a graphical tool not a data tool. The areas are labeled numerically in discrete 1% increments while the raw data is changing at ~0.0017%/mm and these changes are represented as subtle changes in color across those discrete areas. The only data we care about in terms of the heat map is the 1.3 to 1.24 SF loss and where was the strike location on the face - 16mm heal and 5mm low. From the video the SF loss is 4.6% looking up 16mm heal and 5mm low on the heat map it is on the edge of where the map changes from 3% loss to 4%. For that data point in the video, 16mm heal, 5mm low, 71.3 mph swing speed (reference was 71.4 mph), the distance loss was 7.2% or 9 yards, 125 reference distance down to 116. However, distance loss is not part of a heat map discussion. Distance loss will be specific to the golfers swing characteristics not the club. What I was trying to convey was that I do not have enough information to determine good or bad. Are the two systems referencing strike location the same? How accurate are the two systems in measuring even if they are referencing from the same location? What variation might have been introduced by the club delivery on the shot I picked vs the reference set of shots? However, based on the data I do have and making some assumptions and guesses the results seem ok, within reason, a good place to start from and possibly refine. I do not see what is wrong with 70mph 7 iron, although that is one of my other areas of questioning. The title of the video has slow swing speed in all caps, and it seems like the videos I watch define 7i slow, medium, and fast as 70, 80, and 90. The whole question of mid iron swing speed and the implications for a players game and equipment choices is of interest to me as (according to my swing speed meter) over my ~decade break I lost 30mph swing speed on mine.
    • Maxfli, Maltby, Golfworks, all under the Dicks/Golf Galaxy umbrella... it's all a bit confounding. Looking at the pictures, they all look very, very similar in their design. I suspect they're the same club, manufactured in the same factory in China, just with different badging.  The whacky pricing structure has soured me, so I'll just cool my heels a bit. The new Mizuno's will be available to test very soon. I'm in no rush.
