Boy is that ever right, I even was a bit jealous at times  but you gave me enough to work on for now and that's all I needed, I understand he's not as far along but he just kept at it and at it until either Erik or you told him enough already, you're not going to suddenly shoot 72 everyday by getting as much information as possible from everyone here and just plow through the tips until you find what works for you. I think Kyle partially thought that was a good idea and he could implement these changes to his current swing until the desired results happened, the reality is he needed to completely unlearn a lot of bad habits in order to rebuild a swing he could build on, I thought he would have been a good subject for showing before and after swing rebuilds.

You need to be mentally strong for business. Quite frankly, you're not.

Glad I didn't have to say it

You are 1/8 of the way to your deadline and I'd love to know what progress has been made.

Well, he shot 102 in his most recent tourney, so...

If anything this is a lesson in goal-setting.  As has been said before, the "shoot for the moon, land on the stars" philosophy sounds great in an inspirational message, but it isn't really practical.  Setting a goal for the moon, and jumping for it, just means crash-landing on your basement floor.  Baby steps and practical goal setting may not be sexy, manly or particularly motivating, but you know what they can be?  A path to success.  If you're real about it, you will set realistic goals.

This site is a real eye opener for a inexperienced player. I honestly had no idea how A) ignorant I was (still am) to how technical the swing can be broken down. B) how much harder it is to make a change, and C) how cool it is that there are professional teachers that are willing to help all of us for their love of their craft. Its kind of intimidated to read what it all take to get good. I think some people have trouble being criticized because they take it to personal. Everyone on here has a common goal to get better so if you read this Kyle I'd like to see you snooping around this site but if not good luck.

Hmmm.... I'm just another clown with a set of clubs, but Kyle's story touched me in a way. When I read how he played and what he hoped to accomplish I thought, in the immortal words of the dude that was kidnapping Liam Neesons daughter "Good luck". But, really, I'm just like you Kyle. I can hit it long, but I don't consistently capitalize. I don't have a plan to improve, I just hope to work it out.

Here is my plan for 2014...play the game honestly with myself. I hope to play perfect bogey golf. Record everything so as to have good answers when I get lessons. There, that's it. And I'll insist that when I get a lesson, that I get a specific plan for improvement. Take video every week and look at it to see that it is in-line with the improvement plan.

Kyle, your expectations were too high, you let that get between you and this fun that is this game. You have a low 90's swing and it will take years to make a swing of high enough quality to get to scratch. But you don't have to shoot scratch to love golf. Go out and play, take lessons, work on your game and have fun.

Why do they call golf "golf"?  Because all the other four letter words were taken.

Aww man I'm just now reading this thread, and what happened (Kyle leaving). There is a lot of great advice in here! Especially about being realistic, and having a goal and a plan to achieve that goal. I hope he changes his mind and comes back....or someone else starts an Operation Scratch thread B-)

One can only hope he continues his pursuit. Maybe just not in 2014. He's probably busy with his business. If he PMs me the info I might take my family on one of the excursions.

A lot of guys want to play scratch golf. Most of them aren't willing or able to put the necessary time in to achieve it. There's no quick fix and Kyle certainly didn't make it easier on himself. He had great advice from professionals but if he didn't see instant improvement in a couple of swings he ditched it. Personally, I don't care if he comes back. He can pay for professional advice and lessons like the rest of us. Either his ignorance of how difficult it is to play scratch golf got in the way or his ego prevented him from accepting that he needed to rebuild his swing to get better. Either way he was never getting near 0.0.

I wouldn't be too hard on Kyle.

When I first started playing golf, if somebody had asked me if I could be a scratch golfer in a year, I would have thought it would be no problem at all if I wanted too (after they explained to me what a scratch golfer was). After all it looks really easy on TV.

I wouldn't have said it but I would have thought it...Of course I would have been completely wrong.

Although he didn't help himself, as he posted some extremely high scores (over 100 in a tournament) but continued with his belief that some magical swing change would solve his problems.  Being a scratch golfer is extremely difficult and he never seemed to lower his expectations and set realistic goals, as if just playing in more tournaments and practicing all of the time would do the trick.

It was a decent thread to see if someone could really do that in under a year, but as others have said, with no clear plan other than just hitting more FIR & GIR and taking less putts, it seemed like it was destined to go off the tracks at some point and it didn't take long.

I didn't really give it much thought, until @harmonious told us all what it would take. It sounds really hard. The one that stuck out to me is sand saves and up and down greater than 50%. I end up in bunkers a lot and usually get out in one, but getting close to the pin is a completely different level of control. He said you need 50% sand saves? Most of us are happy just to get out of a bunker. Anything north of 50% GIR on any green us just incredible, the level of controlling distance and spin on the club is really amazing. It's harder than we think.

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
    • First time playing this game, Spanish is my native language. It was impossible for me. After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
