So any things that you guys feel is a must have to work on golf swing while at home? i live in michigan so im thinking about getting a net and stuff for basement but i feel that still wont show much of how im improving.  What are some good tools to get?

I'm a show me type, so recording my swing showed me things I never expected to see, so I'd say a good video camera is a great investment. I also use a net, cept mine is outside, and while you can't see the ball flight, you can Feel when you hit the ball properly, having a good mat also helps, the cheap ones don't hold up.

You can post your recorded swing in the Member swing forum, for some sound advice.

A camera is your 15th club. It is essential if you want to improve long term. The first and most important function is to track your improvement during each practice session. What you feel you are doing means nothing. You need to see it on video. Then you need to make sure you continue to do it right because it is easy to slip back into bad habits. Lastly you can post it on the website or send to a pro on evolvr or other online site. Do it you won't regret it.

When you record your swings, do you just keep the camera running the whole practice session?

You could. There's a guy at the range I go to that records while he hits a small bucket of balls. I guess it would depend how long your battery lasts.

I usually use my phone and record one swing face on and another DTL in the middle of the session to send in to Evolvr. Probably not the best way to go about it but weather in NY hasn't really allowed for outdoor practice.

Just setup the camera and record a few different swings. No need to record hundreds of shots. Make sure the camera is aligned correctly as well. Face on and DTL views are needed. I like to make slow motion swings in front of a mirror(or a window at night) during the winter and practice the positions I need to work on to get better. Hogan slow motion drill helps too. Don't obsess over making your swing look perfect though, every person's swing has it's nuances.

I'm also in Michigan. The weather has really been a pain in the rear. I have a net in my basement as well. In addition to the camera, I would recommend setting up mirrors. I have one directly in front of me and one down the line. It's helped tremendously. Unlike the camera, this gives you instant feedback in real time.

I do a variety of things. Record swings, slow swings without a ball to make sure I'm doing a piece right. Record 2-3 swings fo, then dtl and then review and repeat this 2-3 times. Or I won't record until the end of the session and look at video at home.

Depending on your recording capacity, you may not be able to leave the camera on for more than 15 minutes. Mine won't let me do that. At least on high fps mode.

Sorry for the slow reply.

No. I only record a few swings. I will record some of the slow motion swings to confirm I am doing what I think I am doing and then record a few at full speed to see how the changes are taking hold.

I will post a session in my swing thread to show you.

For those of you who record their swing, is there an app or way you would recommend recording your swing so you can slow it down and transpose plane lines on the video?

I have an app called Ubersense that works well. You can play back at 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 speed as well as control frame by frame with finger swipe. Can do lines, circles, squares. Pretty sure it's free. Only complaint is limited to 30 FPS but that's the iPhones issue not the app and the newer iPhone will apparently do 120fps.

My phone will record in 120 fps (Samsung S4) and I set it up on a gorilla tripod either standing on a bench or wrapped on my bag.  If I want to go frame by frame I load the video into the V1 app, which lets you draw lines and whatever else you might want.  https://www.v1sports.com/

V1 also has a timer feature so it waits 15 seconds, then flashes to let you know the recording starts.  It records for 4 seconds, then the timer starts again automatically.

Unfortunately, if I record from within V1 I can't select 120fps and it just records at the standard 30fps.  So that requires shooting with my camera app, then importing into V1.  That's too many steps and I can't use the timer.  Fixing that would make this an incredibly powerful tool.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
