Really enjoying these games so far!! I've watched 10 times more World Cup than us open this weekend! One random goofy thought I've always had: why can't/doesn't Adidas make their shoes in special colors for the teams instead of just neon yellow and orange?? They could still do bright colors, but could also match unis. Leave the yellow for Brazil and Colombia, the orange for the Dutch and Mexico, USA and England and Germany could have red shoes, Italy and Argentina could go blue, etc etc. that would look a lot sharper to me. Anyway ... Go USA tomorrow! (And don't drown!!)

I think the shoe companies just want them to stick out. For instance, if you see anyone wearing one pink shoe and one blue shoe (like a lot of the guys are), you know they're with Puma. I am, however, a bit surprised that FIFA doesn't have an overarching deal with Nike or Adidas or whomever to provide all of the uniforms and shoes, rather than leaving that up to the individual countries and players. Seems like that would be a very FIFA sort of money grab.

I am predicting the US to go 0-1-2. So a loss to the Germans and draws against Ghana and Portugal. Defensively the US have a good chance, but a challenge for them to score enough against the Germans or the Portuguese.

No hate, just being realistic.

As an aside, the WC this year has been fantastic. Goals, goals, and more goals. Got to be close to 3x from 2010.

The key for the US against Ghana I think is disciplined possession in the midfield. Ghana will slice the US back line wide open on the counterattack with their speed, and long balls if they are not careful in the midfield. I really want this Ghana match to go the way of the US. They need a little revenge and it would be a big confidence boost for the next two. If they lose, I am afraid it could very well mean three losses.

So....If USA has any chance to advance, what is the best outcome in this Germany-Portugal game?

Germany wins, Ronaldo blows out a knee? Both knees? And an ankle?

As a normal human being, It's hard to root for Germany. Also they already got their dam US Open!

I'll never root for Germany or Portugal. My best guess is that Germany will finish first in the poule. So the USA is competing for second place. Portugal, except for Ronaldo, does not have a strong team. So the best outcome for the USA would be a win by Germany.

Germany handing Portugal their ass

Big time.

I am starting to feel the nervous energy about the USA game.  By game time I will be freaking out probably.

Not a complete surprise. Portugal does not have a strong team. Germany on the other hand is in it for the cup. Every point USA takes away in the game against Germany are bonus points. Germany is just too strong. The other two games will be the ones they should take away Points.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
