Bingo! Why watch a terrible swing? A sweet, smooth, fluid swing such as Louis Oosthuizen's is an art.

I didn't mean I only pay attention good swings. I mean I look at mechanics that produce power and I don't much care what the swing looks like or if it's a "good swing" or a "bad swing". Of course by default it's usually a good swing (but not always).

If it's a "bad swing" with a lot of power I think about what it would take to make it work for better control and consistency.

It may not even be something that is either feasible or desirable for anyone to ever want to copy but I want to know where the power came from.

Not just in golf but in anything. If a guy can swing a 20lb. hammer harder than everybody else on the job site I'm going to watch and try to figure out why, and what in the Hell he's doing that nobody else is doing.

Without power and/or speed I'm pretty much disinterested.

Next time just for fun go to each one of them when you first get there and give them pointers and then go hit an entire bucket with the worst swing you can possibly do. Money well spent. Bonus if you can catch the whole thing on camera.

Hilarious! :w00t:

I never judge or try to analyze other players swings............ just saying.   I hate it when people ask me to on the course.  they figure I can play a little bit....... so this makes me Butch Harmon or something?  I always defer politely...Im no coach.

If I make a bad swing and unsolicited advice is offered to me, a vein will burst from my forehead.  The last thing I want is your advice.  This happened to me once last year by a new marshal that knows nothing..........I almost killed him with an evil stink eye glare alone.  We have since been better acquainted, and it's all cool...LOL

I would Never ask anyone, except my instructors to look at my swing. OTH, I would never offer any advice to anyone, even though I know what they are doing wrong, but sometimes, wrong works.

So when I say analyze, I'm doing it in my mind, not verbally.

I don't usually notice. The only time I look at someone is if they are loud because it gets my attention. Typically the guy saying "did you see how far I hit that one!" has a horrific swing, obviously trying to swing fast, looks jerky etc. Though most of the time the range is empty when I am there.

Jealous. I dread going to the range sometimes where I live because nobody can mind their own business lol

Posted

Sometimes at the range I see someone for example with the old posture "athletic posture" lower back arched and their feet pointing straight ahead, and they are swaying in the back swing mostly because of their posture.. So, I have the urge to say to them hey I can help you a little bit and I want to give them advice on this piece only.... well, I always find a reason not to and the main one is hey you know what when they are ready to improve they will eventually find this site on their own.

The issue sometimes with this is involuntary utterances. Like "Wow, seriously?" or "Way OTT, how did he even make contact?" or you get the idea. At this point, I just turn around and do my drills while waiting for my turn. . .

+1 to this. I think giving unsolicited advice is actually quite rude, but if someone asks me I will say what i think. However i would make it very clear that if they actually want to improve to take a lesson.

If you are on /r/golf on reddit, you'll see more and more people posting their swings and soliciting advice. It's interesting reading the answers. Keep your head down is alive and well on that forum. Keep your left arm straight, swing within yourself. When I chime in, it's stuff like you're taking your vid from a bad angle or simple things like posture. Some answers are crazy long. Land of confusion. Perhaps one redditor could use a TST project.

That's pretty important advice even though it's not necessarily what they were looking for. You may even fix their swing with that advice!

Dude: Can someone help with my swing? I'm taking the club back WAY too far to the inside. Here's a DTL video.

Nevets88: Move your camera to the left, it's not positioned properly.

Dude: Wow, thanks. I moved the camera like you said and now my takeaway looks MUCH better. How did you do that??????

I did tell them to post a vid in the member swings forum. I wonder if any of them did.

I can post that TST is doing a The TST Project, see if you can get picked.

Ha ha, the camera angles some of those vids are taken from - it's all over the map. From the ground, 30 ft away. All you have to do is type "golf video camera position/angle" and boom. People are fuggin lazy.

Yes camera angles for the most part are pretty bad. I even saw one video recently where the person holding the camera follows the ball after the guy hits it :-\ Another good one is where the swing video is like two or three seconds, if you don't have Analyzr or something, how the heck is anyone suppose to see what's going on?

When you Google "golf video camera position", TST is the 2nd result. The 1st is a Golf Evolution video.
