He didn't do that and modified the scores, invalidating his entry in the contest.

@ChrisP was also sent a PM about this almost a month ago, after he made his second post. He didn't complain about it. So this isn't something that we just "discovered" today.

He's catholic, a Manchester United supporter, has played for Ireland all his life and had his uncle killed by the Ulster Volunteer Force. He got some horrific abuse from somebody today, really unbelievable. I mean - you would NEVER hear that in the US. One guy was marched out, and that also explains the security around RM at the end walking down 18.

Should never have it at Liverpool again - a bunch of scumbags. Great course, but the patrons are horrid.

Well I'm afraid I have to say that on our facebook pages he's actually drawn more sectarian insults from people thinking he's an "orangeman" and posting pro-republican and anti-protestant messages from North America (principally New York) so right now I'm inclined to think that yes, you might hear that sort of thing in certain parts of the United States

I am sure it was mentioned above, but it sure was good to tee off early Thursday.  20 of 52 (38%) groups went off before 10 am Thursday and accounted for 15 of the top 17 finishes (88%).  Adam Scott (14:27) had the highest finish among the 96 players teeing off after 10 am Thursday.  George Coetzee at -7 had the highest finish of the 22 groups (66 players) who teed off between 10:10 and 14:16.

I have learned that saying JACKASS right before McIlroy swings does NOT help. Unbelievable I know.

Initially I figured it was RJH shouting Jackass at the TV, but perhaps the guy in red is actually him? Or could it be, that RJH actually heard the incident, posted about it, but no one recognised the significance of it? Actually... looking at the posting time, it would be about right with Rory playing the 15th

I have to say though, if the offender has shouted "jackass" it wouldn't point to them being Liverpudlian or even British

I have no problem with Rory pointing out a heckler that was abusing him all day long. This is one of the biggest moments of his life, winning The Open. I think PGA Tour players should have the right to have people kicked out for doing stupid stuff like this.

Glad to see Rory win his 3rd, hope he keeps winning more.

McIlroy is Catholic, has always played for Ireland at both amateur and professional level, plus his uncle was killed by the Ulster Volunteer Force, a pro-Protestant Sectarian militia that terrorised the Catholic population of both Northern Ireland and the border country.

As I understand it, the term 'taig' was used - McIlroy arced up at this because he would have gotten a lot of that in his time.

So how bad did the morning players on Thursday do relative to the later group that day? Anyone see any good analysis of how few of that group made the cut or made the top of the leaderboard overall? I know their conditions were tougher and Adam Scott mentioned it in his press conference, but curious if there's some good analysis out there on how the numbers worked out.

Rory's streaky. He might not win a major for years now. He could MC at the PGA.

3 majors in 3+ years is streaky? Mmm. Don't think so. He's as consistent as has ever been to this point in his career.
