As I look, I did not make these private.   Appears Vimeo made a bunch of changes, and is trying to get people to have pay memberships.   I just need to go in and individually make each video public.

I'll try to get something new up sometime soon.

Thank you.

Film a video of yourself doing this. What kind of grip do you use? Why does the right hand have to be determined by the left hand? I can grip the left hand the same and make the right strong, weak, neutral, and every step in between.

I suppose the best way to describe it is it feels very uncomfortable to have my palm so much on top of my left thumb. I’ve only discovered this problem so it is probably a case of sucking it up until I get used to it.

So it looks like I'm having the standard problem, right?

Yes.

Golfers will also have a pattern of the location of the wear spot on their glove, under the heel pad, into the palm like the example below. The thumb can also get "shredded" pretty quickly due to the lack of stability in the hand.

I just took a golf glove out of my bag;  I plan to keep it in my practice room, but I have a new one I will be using on course.  I thought about this thread and would like to see if my wear pattern looks right.  I am including the original posted glove for reference.  Can someone who knows what they're doing better than I do take a look and give an opinion on this for me?  Thanks in advance.

Question on where to feel the most pressure in the hands.

For me, the bottom three fingers of my left hand  (I am a right handed golfer) apply the most pressure to the club (support the club the most). By the calluses I get, my middle finger takes the most wear and tear. Maybe I should feel a bit more pressure in the pinky and ring finger to even it out?

I'm leaving this tab open so I can reply the next time I grab a club and remember this question. 🙂

Great weather today ( 75 in Az)

Went to the range to correct my hook.

A woman pro teacher had a 1 min. Video on THE GRIP

Both thumbs on shaft at (12 O CLOCK)= NEUTRAL

both thumbs @ (2 O'Clock) = STRONG

both thumbs at (11 O'clock ) = weak.

I prefer hitting a draw since I'm 68 with a disabled & lost 50 yds in distance since .

I found the Neutral - fade at (1 o clock) would produce a straight or slight draw )

I did try the weak grip & it did produce a fade ...produced a slight fade( may use for a dogleg right ) but for the most part didnt feel comfortable

Been working on grip.  Went from bad to whatever this is (which is, at the least, better).   It’s been difficult.

Thanks for the observation.  Believe it or not, that thread is where I went when I got the instructions to revisit my grip.  I think it's clear I'm not doing it right this iteration either.  I took video a moment ago of me taking my grip, although I moved around (in ways I don't when I take my grip when swinging) in hopes that the camera can pick up more angles of what I'm doing.

If someone can point out what I'm doing wrong, I'd greatly appreciate it.

@Shindig, I'm going to continue this discussion here instead of in the COVID practice thread because it's getting OT there.

What I see in your grip is that it's definitely palmy. It's closer to neutral than weak, but I still think it's weaker than what's recommended these days.

Shindig Grip.png

See how the club (marked in red to match your grip) runs straight through the heel pad (green) of your lead hand? That pad should rest on top of the grip. So from that position there you should see a little bit of the outline of your hand above the butt end of the club before your wrist. The way you hold the club now, the butt end of the club basically comes up right to your wrist.

Here’s my grip in a similar position to yours:

Also, what's with that right index finger?

Did you see day 1?

Can you support the club with the index finger and the heel pad alone? Can you film this same thing from down the line? It appears to go across your palm.

Your left hand isn't "strong", FWIW, but otherwise very good video.

Nice video. I thought about making one and didn’t get around to it.

Either you have really long fingers or I have really short fingers, but my fingers do not wrap all the way around the grip like yours do.

Man, the video says all the same things I've been saying. Beyond the basic grip structure:

  • Don't grip the club in front of you. It's awkward and the grip runs up your palm.
  • Gripping the club firmly (not like a baby bird) while maintaining loose forearms and wrists is a skill.
  • Right hand covers but doesn't smother the left thumb.

It usually is. I was paying more attention to the video than my hands. Now I have more respect for tv weatherman.

I have long thin fingers. I wear an XL glove for the length.

    • As a geezer who remembers seeing the original Star Wars in theaters - this sim is pretty kewl.  Fantastic detail!
    • Day 203 (21 Nov 24) - Weekly nine hole round with my good friend.  Played it as a 7 club challenge (7w, 5h, 7i, 9i, GW, LW, putter).  As we were playing up a set of tees, no super loss of distance off the tee.  Had some good looks at birdie, failed to convert.  These sessions with fewer clubs really helps with course management.
    • Tell me about it - shouldn’t have second guessed…
    • My wife is going to drag me to see Wicked.   She is very excited to see it.   We saw the musical while in Chicago and thought it was very good.  I'm not usually a fan of musicals but I'm looking forward to seeing this.   Gladiator 2 does look good.   I'm going to go back and watch the original Gladiator before going to the theater.
    • MSN Glover expressed his dissatisfaction with what he termed as 'cool kid meetings' between Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tiger Woods and other high-profile golfers. "I think it's terrible," he stated. "And then hiding behind pace of play, I think, challenges our intelligence. They think we're stupid.     "Don't cut fields because it's a pace of play issue. Tell us to play faster, or just say you're trying to appease six guys and make them happy so they don't go somewhere else and play golf." Fitzpatrick joined the conversation on X (formerly Twitter), with the 30-year-old echoing Glover's sentiments regarding the PGA Tour changes. "He's so right," Fitzpatrick posted. "Pathetic that pace of play is spoken about every year and nothing ever gets done."     I agree. Instead of  penalizing  players for  turtle  play they appease the  slow jerks  by  cutting the  fields. They will play even slower  knowing they will NEVER be  penalized.
