Not a lot of guys are going to succeed in that situation.

(I will say he's really ****ing over my fantasy team.)

Another response to this...

Brian Hoyer's top two targets most of the year have been undrafted free agents (One of whom is a rookie). He has one injury prone RB, and 2 rookies RBs...one of whom was undrafted. He also lost his Pro Bowl center, and has spent the past 4 weeks with his center laying on his back as soon as the ball is snapped. The Browns are 6-3 and besides one bad fluky loss, haven't lost a game by more than 3 points.

Newton just looks terrible in and out of the pocket, has been getting rattled by pressure, and has just made terrible decisions and has looked inaccurate all year.

He's a running QB.  Take away the run and they become ordinary.

Yup. Kind of one of my points. They figured out that he can't throw the ball well, so they just always have people ready to contain him.

Andrew Luck can run too...but he can also play the pocket game, so teams can't contain him as easily.

Steve Young improved immensely when he stopped running.

Steve Young improved immensely when he stopped running.

Steve Young averaged about 61 rushing attempts per year when he played for the 49ers. I took the years he was a starter 1991 till 1998. It was pretty steady, he was a 50-70 rush attempt per year guy.

It wasn't like he suddenly stopped running. He was a very consistent QB through out those years after he took over for Montana.

Man, he was a starter from '91-'98? I am getting so old. Seems like just a few years ago...
Give them some time, they are the Lions.

Yeah but Jim Caldwell isn't Jim Schwartz. He has won before and I think teams respond different to a coach who has rings. Detroit has one of the best defenses in the league which can take you a long way. See Seattle of last season.
Agree he's not Gym Shorts, and their defense has played great thought the injuries to key guys is getting worrisome, but Caldwell doesn't have any rings as a head coach. I could rattle off a LONG list of coaches that got rings as assistants and never panned out as a head coach, so that argument doesn't carry much weight. It's admittedly the cynical Lions fan in me that only wants to focus on the 2-14 record the last time he coached, but it is part of his resume. I've come to accept the fact that any success from the Lions is sure to be followed by a complete implosion, especially when the success is coming from so many lucky breaks.

He may not have any as a head coach but he was in the super bowl as a head coach and he seems to have got the team to buy in. They have a lot less personal foul penalties and they won 4 out of 5 without their best player. I'm not saying I'd pick them to represent the NFC in the super bowl but I don't think are going to go away.

We'll see. I put a lot of faith in the Lions being the Lions, it's the only way to not be constantly let down. :)

One of the reasons I'm struggling to get really excited about the Browns being in 1st place haha.

The division may very possibly come down to the last game @ Green Bay. In which case, I believe the Lions better hope to be a wild card at best.

Yeah, Green Bay looks absolutely unstoppable.

The Browns on the other hand...well, they looked like the Browns yesterday.:cry:

If only we played in the NFC South lol

Green Bay looks unstoppable at home, will be interesting to see how well they play the rest of the season on the road.

Hoyers completion percentage was 40% yesterday, getting Gordon back will only help the Browns is Hoyer can get him the ball.

Was only a matter of time for Hoyer. Wonder how Manziel is progressing? He wasn't ready to start at the beginning of the season; curious if he's improved. Tough to do during the season taking 2nd team practice snaps so may not be much better now than then but may get in there before EoY.

I think that may be the case for guys like Mike Vick and RGIII. But Cam Newton has a great arm and has some serious QB skills. He proved it last season but I don't know what is up with him this year. He looked like he just quit against the Eagles but I think that can be said about the whole team. He never had a chance.

I would like to see him in Chip Kelly's offense. He is just the type of QB who would thrive in it, and not because he "runs", but because he has terrific footwork and is smart enough to take advantage of the read-option offense. The other guy who would kick butt in Chip Kelly's offense is Russell Wilson.

Damn, I wish the Eagles had a legit QB. Kelly's brain is being wasted on Mark Sanchez and Nick Foles.

Before the knee, I always thought RGIII had a better arm and was more accurate than Newton.

Russell Wilson would dominate the league in Philly. He's doing "ok" this year in Seattle, and his #1 receiver is Doug Baldwin...

I would agree with that. Usually if you don't have accuracy in college you wont in the pro's. If you can't thread the needle in college when the coverage is less tight and the reads don't need to be as fast, you probably wont develop that skill in time in the pro's.

RGIII's last two season's in college, he was a 70% completion QB. Cam Newton in his one season at Auburn was a 66% completion percentage. I think RGIII was asked to do more in the passing game. Auburn's offense tends to be option, option, option, throw the short screen pass maybe take a shot down field on a long pass.

RGIII did attempt over 400 passess in each of his final two seasons. Cam only threw for 280 times his one year at Auburn.

The thing that I don't like about RGIII (and what reminds me of Vick) is that he doesn't know when to give up on a play. Sometimes there is nothing there, so learn to live and fight another day. Instead those guys will try the ill advised pass or try to run through somebody and get hurt. Newton isn't the most accurate guy out there, but he has a gun for an arm and he is bigger than most of the guys who are trying tackle him in space. AND, he knows how and when to slide. There is something to be said for that in a QB.

No Brian Schottenheimers, Tony Sparanos or Marty Morhinwhegs around here. Sanchez will do very well in Chip Kelly's offense, better than Foles anyway. One thing Foles has been good for this year is a couple of turnovers per game. You could book it.

    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
