Report: Peyton Manning Played Entire Season With 38-Year-Old Body

DENVER—After a lackluster performance in his team’s playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts, reports emerged Wednesday that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning played the entire 2014 season with a 38-year-old body. “Many had suspected something was wrong as Manning’s numbers dipped during the second half of the season, but he was able to hide the precise nature of his 38-year-old body from coaches, teammates, and the media,” said ESPN’s Adam Schefter, adding that the team’s midseason shift to a more run-heavy offense was made in an effort to keep the 14-time Pro Bowler from further aggravating his nearly-four-decades-old bones, tendons, and musculature. “Manning was often seen grimacing on the sidelines and was visibly frustrated at being hampered by a 38-year-old body during games. But the situation unfortunately only worsened as he tried to play through it.” Reached for comment, sources from the Broncos medical staff expressed pessimism over Manning’s future, warning that he will put himself at significant risk if he opts to play next season with a 39-year-old body.

It is a bummer.

I was following the score on my phone, and saw it was 19-7 GB with 7 min. to go, and I thought to myself, Packers are in the SB.

Then when I was at Buffalo Wild Wings eating dinner and watching the NE and IND game, I saw an update saying Seahawks made the SB.  At first I thought it was a mistake.  Then they showed the highlights and I nearly choked on my food.  I couldn't believe GB gave up that many points in the last few minutes and lost in the OT.

I was watching the game. GB had that lead and intercepted the ball. The guy had running room and just slid with the ball instead of advancing it. I understand they wanted more field to run the clock down, but they went three and out and punted the ball. I don't understand this. Even 3 more points on that drive would have sealed the deal for them.

I don't think it was about giving them more field to run down the clock, it's more about not risking the defensive guy fumbling the ball and turning it back over to Seattle. Green Bay just made to many mistakes to win that game, you get 2 turnovers inside your opponents 20 yard line and only come away with 6 points, plus you turn the ball over in the red zone too, that's 21 points you left on the board. Plus on the 2 point conversion wilson threw the ball 50 feet in the air, the safety for GB just stood there and watched the ball come down into the guys hands, he breaks that up and GB needs a FG to win the game.

In hindsight, there were many decisions that GB made throughout the game that can be pointed to as critical. But the onside kick and the two-point conversion were the killers.

I was chuckling afterward when all the Seahawks players were talking about how they stuck together and played through adversity, but they owe some thanks to the GB tight end Bostick for muffing that kick. He was their MVP, not Russell or Lynch. And all the talk about the 12th man, but nothing about how the 12th man was abandoning the stadium with 4-5 minutes left.

Chargers fans (and Patriots fans) can appreciate this.  Holding an 8 point lead with about 5 minutes left in the game, they intercept Tom Brady - which certainly wouldn't seal the victory, but it would help immensely - and then while trying to be a hero and get extra yards, the DB is stripped of the ball by Troy Brown (who shares space on my enemies mantle with Scott Brosius and the plate umpire of Game 1 of the 1998 WS :-P ) and with Tom Brady at the helm, you can guess what comes next.  Touchdown, 2-pt conversion, quick stop, field goal, ballgame.

I will never fault a defensive player for securing the ball after a turnover.

And all the talk about the 12th man, but nothing about how the 12th man was abandoning the stadium with 4-5 minutes left.

It was on the cover of Yahoo.com last night ... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/seattle-seahawks-fans-who-left-game-early-miss-epic-comeback-234011392.html

Those pictures of people trying to get back in or watching on TVs in these situations always make me laugh.  I get leaving early from regular games - with little kids I have to do it all the time now.  But playoff games?  Championship games??  What the hell people?  You paid several hundreds (maybe more) for those tickets - what is wrong with you???

Not saying that in any way swayed the game. I think Andrew's luck finally ran out.

And the first time caught was probably the first time they ever did it. They probably didn't cheat in that close game last week that got them into Sundays game.

I just saw this. Ouch!

How would this even be possible?

Quote:
According to the NFL rulebook, the home team sends 12 official game balls to the referees to be tested two hours and 15 minutes before the game starts. The balls then remain under a referee's supervision until they are delivered to a ball attendant just before kickoff. NFL rules stipulate that each football must have an air pressure between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch.

So during the game, the Patriots would somehow obtain possession of the balls out of play while the attendants should have them and deflate them?  That seems a bit absurd that they would actually risk getting in trouble for something so inconsequential.

And never mind the fact that the totality of the information is 7 tweets from an Indianapolis beat writer and his source.

I'm no Patriots fan, but color me skeptical on this one.

And then there is this story: http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/12193345/nfl-investigating-whether-new-england-patriots-deflated-footballs-indianapolis-colts

which contains a bit more information regarding typical game procedures including this nugget that the original story conveniently left out:

"Officials check balls as they go into the game, and if the ball doesn't feel perfect, they can throw it out," Daopoulos said. " There is always the possibility that balls can lose air due to the conditions."

Gonna venture a guess that nothing is discovered and this whole "controversy" turns out to be complete nonsense.

It's on NFL.com. That's a pretty good source as to what the NFL is investigating.
