Not even watching the golf telecast, it showed up on reddit - he four putted again. On the same hole. On a related note, Wozniacki just double faulted 4 times in a row... Kidding :-)

Twice in two days on the same hole? Nasty!

Ballesteros 4-putted once and it was interesting hearing his post round interview. The media guy asked him what had happened, as if it was something huge, and Ballesteros simply said: "I putt - I miss, I putt - I miss, I putt - I miss, I putt - I hole it". He didn't see what the fuss was about, one iota, which I presume illustrates how he just tried to focus on a single shot at a time and shut out the rest. A different mentality to the vast majority.

And had to make a 4-footer to avoid a 5-putt!

He'd fit right in with our happy little group! ;-)

That's what Stockton teaches.

Interesting. Sad to say I haven't read what he has to say on putting but what's his argument for that being a good thing? I don't make a practice swing on full shots but they're sort of full on and I tend to make a single practice swing on 1/2 or 3/4 swing-type of shots. I'd swear it helps me get a feel for how much to put into a shot of that type. Gut reaction is for putts it would feel very odd but maybe it's just getting used to it.

im open to suggestions - i no longer use the line on a ball to line up my putts, i use just the plain no markings side of the ball, because of what i have seen on this site.

why does he suggest no practice stoke when putting?

Sounds like a good idea for a new thread.

Though I don't know if you'll get too many replies. You'd probably have to ask him (or read or quote his book?).

Read his book.  It is well written.

I agree with @boogielicious the book is worth the read.  Stockton feels practice swings on putts are no more necessary than a practice throw motion is required before tossing a ball to someone.

I have not used a practice swing since reading the book and in addition to the practice I've been doing, my putting has improved.  The practice swings would get too many things going in my head and I'd tense up.  Now I just find my line and putt, better results and improved my pace of play, win / win.
