I know a lot of you like this guy despite him not bringing much to the table table or having any personality to speak of, but this irritates me. First off, as a former player and an American, don't broadcast that you didn't watch any of the Ryder Cup. If you don't want to watch, that's fine, but don't announce that to your country and former teammates. It just makes you look like an apathetic tool. And second of all, if you didn't care enough to watch any of it, don't get on Twitter right after the loss and throw out a #Azinger2016 message. You don't have much credibility at making captain recommendations if you later announce that you didn't watch the event to begin with. I hope this clown never plays on another RC.

Geez. I couldn't care less if he watched the Ryder Cup. And he was probably asked a question, so, no, I don't care that he offered up that information. File this under "we say we want athletes to speak their mind and then jump all over them when we don't like what they say."

I couldn't care less if he watched it either.  But if you choose not to watch it, don't try to stay relevant on twitter afterwards. I don't come into the office on Monday and throw out a "yea that Romo really blew it yesterday" if I didn't catch a minute of the game on Sunday.

Disagree. Clearly he found out what the score was. You didn't have to watch the carnage to be disappointed by the coaching.

I think it reads worse than Dufner intended it.  Dufner took a break from all things golf and pursued other interests.

Before I owned my own business I'd take vacations from my job and not call in or check e-mail so that I could detach from the job, I think Dufner tried to do the same thing which I think is good for anyone's mental health to help avoid burnout.

agree with the OP, just no point in announcing he had no interest in watching his prior team mates play arguably the biggest match play in golf ... just makes him sound a tad off (more than usual anyways)

I wish I hadn't watched.

I wanted to watch what they were doing/saying behind the scenes ... and pass the popcorn.

Maybe he did watch and just wanted to avoid the inevitable controversy-stirring press questions. Even if he didn't watch, he probably got plenty of insider info. / updates from Keegan.

Agree with you and Erik. The OP is reading way too much into this.

I'm not sure how watching gives you credibility in making captain recommendations, but oh well.

If you watched the McGladrey classic ProAm, you would realize that he wasn't the only one not to watch the Ryder cup, and yet have an input on what could be done better next time.

I fail to see what the problem is here. As someone who plays golf for a living, I'm sure the players doesn't have a need to watch much televised golf. He answered a question, plain and simple. He could have lied and said he watched it, but I prefer people answering questions honestly rather than making up lies just to make them look good.

Yeah he was probably more informed on what was going on behind the scenes than all of us. He knew enough of what was going on to tweet #Azinger2016.

They commented on this on Morning Drive today. Apparently he kept up on what was happening even though he didn't watch it on TV. I can't see how this is an issue.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
